We had started a thread in the general section about having a winter caching weekend event.
After the positive feedback there and at the SOM finale, we nailed down the details.
The event had been approved so go check it out! Search on GCM2WC
This is going to be a VERY FUN time and we hope to see everyone there!!!!!

djwini12/11/2004 at 5:12 pm #1737587There are only three weeks left to sign up and send in payment for the Great Northwoods Gathering. Due to change in camp personnel and enforcement of camp policies, only those who have prepaid by the deadline will be allowed on camp property.
We are still negotiating with the camp about this policy as well as trying to extend the deadline into the first week of January. But if you want to go, I suggest signing up sooner rather than later in case negotiations fall through.
We are planning at least 20 temp hides by several different teams and some unique twists to event caching. I can’t leak out the details, you’ll have to come and see for yourself! There are also 15+ caches within 20 miles of the camp for your caching pleasure as well.
It promises to be a good time. Hope to see you there! If anything changes, I’ll be sure to post.
12/11/2004 at 11:20 pm #1737588I am not sure if it is best to post a few questions here or right to the event page. I was just wondering how we do a few things since we have never been to an event before. Do we need to bring food? Is there a way to cook there? Do we do potlucks, purchase meals from the camp or each on their own?
For the cabins do we need to bring our own bedding, (sleeping bags), towels?
I saw that there is a seperate, private shower area… are the toilets over there, or in the cabin.Okay, I am sure I will think of a few more but those are the foremost on my mind.
Thanks,

most of these answers can be found on the cache event page.. but I’ll post here. For our event, food is on your own. You can bring your own grill and cook out on the cabin deck or get some food at one of the local restaurants. I usually survive on a bunch of snack type junk food as I’m too busy doing other activities. If you gotta have your coffee, bring your coffee maker and plug it in in the cabin. There are plenty of outlets. Please bring your own bedding – Sleeping bags, pillow etc. The cabin does have a gas furnace and a wood burning fireplace so it won’t be cold. (firewood supplied by camp for free).
Bathroom facilities (showers, toilets) are in a seperate building across from the cabins. Be sure to pay attention which side you go in – One side is boys, one is girls They too are heated. Bring your own towels, shower stuff.
You might want to bring swimsuit/shorts as we do have use of the sauna during the weekend. This is one of my favorite hang outs. One year we got it so hot, the styrofoam in the ceiling started melting!
Hope this helps! It will be a GREAT time.
