I’ve been chatting with a representative of the “Ozaukee/Washington County Land Trust” organization. For cachers in this area (or others if your interested); this organization is training and mobilizing volunteers to “help the woods”. Specifics:
March 26th, in West Bend, WI they will be having a training opportunity on how to identify and correctly remove nasty weeds (such as garlic mustard and some others), and training on how to identify and collect specific tree seeds under specific situations (by placing plastic tarps under trees that meet certain criteria) so that the trust can clean, sort, “pre-emerge” and sow the seeds. I will have more information on this training in the near future. Any interest?
The rep I’ve talked with likes the way geocachers make use of wooded areas and our appreciation for “leave no trace” attitudes. There are currently 3 caches in the trust’s “Sauk Creek Nature Preserve” in Port Washington (2 mine, 1 that was abandoned but I’m babysitting it). I’m not ruling out a potential local “breakfast event”, a few temp hides, followed by a planned attack on the weeds; but maybe I’m over stretching my availability.

02/23/2005 at 2:22 am #1737799Bummer! That is the day before Easter. My family will be in Florida on vacation. Sounds like a worthwhile cause though. Thanks for looking into it and promoting Ron. Tami
02/23/2005 at 3:39 pm #1737800Actually … I’m not trying to promote Ron … just promoting geocaching and killing bad weeds. Sorry, Tami, I’m in a silly mood today.

EnergySaver, did you see the observation tower they are building? OMG!!!

Help – sure, will be in touch when I learn more, however the talk right now is an end of April clean up, and I’m very busy then.
Lions Den clean up – excellent idea, will have to add that to the plate of ideas. Would actually be a very good mini-event area … since it’s fairly large area and all the best hiding trees in the county are there.
