I am going to be a sophmore at UW-Madison this fall and would like to start a geocaching student organization. If anyone is attending UW-Madison this year and is interested in being a part of this, let me know. I will need some help getting it started.

He’s a good one to have helping you! Cachew was the one who taught me the correct way to use my GPSR! Before he came along I was entering waypoints manually, using the coordinates to find where I was going (instead of the compass), and had no idea what GSAK was. There are of course other things he’s helpful with…but I’ll be here all day if I don’t stop now.
Good luck with your club and do give Cachew a shout!
08/01/2005 at 1:46 pm #1738244Thanks Cachew. The UW is pretty strict that if you get money for funding that members be students, but I probably will need some help along the way. I was hoping we could have an expert or two come in and give an intro to geocaching if there are a lot of newbies. Also, I was hoping the group could host an event and help would probably be needed.
Im not in Madison for the summer so I cant post signs and stuff now, so Im having trouble finding other people to get it upstarted. If anyone knows of any cachers that are going to be attending the UW this fall could you give them my email: [email protected].
Does anyone else have any ideas to help find more interested students? I also posted under midwest section on geocaching.com forum, maybe i should try another section also.08/02/2005 at 6:58 pm #1738245Mandrew:
Tony’s guide to guerilla marketing
1.Try the “personals” classified section in the paper version of “The Onion”. It’s really not used for personals in the traditional sense, it’s more used for ‘Shout Outs” or odd things to say. It’s free.
2.Haven’t read “The Daily Cardinal” that recently, but maybe there is some cheap or free similar way to get the word out about your club. You also could approach a reporter at the paper to do a story on geocaching, and at the end they could put you /your club as a contact point for more info.
3.Does the UW have some sort of Electronic Bulletin Board? You could post on that.
4.Also, don’t forget http://madison.craigslist.org/
5.You might want to contact WYOU the Madison Community TV Station. Maybe you can get on one of the local shows, or have your own geocaching show? That would be cool.
6. WORT-FM The radio station? Maybe get a plug on that.
Hope that gives you some help! If I think of any other free press I will post again.
