Man.. that’s a lot of info to digest. Good thing you gave the link to you web page. I learn better by actually SEEING something. I was rather confused (and that doesn’t take a whole lot for me at times. LOL) but the “Additional Waypoints”, now listed, have Coordinates next to them. Are these NOT the coordinates you are trying to figure out by using the clues?? Or are these manufactured coordinates??

Thanks for posting this Ron. I took a look in the Reviewers forums and saw Jeremy’s announcement.

When adding these additional waypoints, you have 3 options:

[*]Show all information for this waypoint, including coordinates.
[*]Show detail of this waypoint but hide the coordinates.
[*]Hide this waypoint from view except by the owner or administrator.

When they are hidden from the public, this is an answer to my prayers. Two years ago when meeting with Jeremy Irishe, I asked if he could create such a feature. If I took credit for the the idea, it would be like Al Gore taking credit for inventing the Internet. Maybe the seed helped.

As most of you know, the approvers are required to make sure caches are at least 528′ away from each other. This includes the intermediate stages of multi caches.

If somone was placing a multicache, we asked them to add a reviewer note and include the coordinates for all the intermediate stages of the multi cache. The approvers then needed to make up a .gpx file of the cache, and review the stages with nearby caches. The process is further complicated when several different multi caches are in the same area. Another problem is when stages are miles apart.

With this new feature, geocachers will be able to input their coordinates and they will populate the .gpx file when downloaded.

This should GREATLY improve our reviewing of multi caches. I’ve spent hours on some complicated multicaches. I really welcome this feature.

When you hide a new multicache, you should include all the coordinates for the cache. To make them secret, choose the option to “hide view except owner or admin”. Rather then asking people to add a reviewer note with this info, you’ll be asked to add the coordinates in this field.

I think this is really cool, and should help Tie and I get your caches approved easier, and hopefully faster.

I just added 7 stages to my Salute to Stute cache. Took a little while to get the hang of things. I hid them so only the owner and admins can see the waypoints.

This was a little cumbersome. I don’t get all the different fields such as “prefix”, and “lookup code”. Seems a little excessing to me, but maybe there is a good reason for it that we will soon find out.

    So far I’m still impressed.

to address “Grousetales” … I totally agree they’re a great idea, especially as you indicate, to “hide” coordinates that only the cache owner and approver can see. As you indicated this great for getting the cache approved, BUT ALSO I like being able to store all my “secret coordinates” on line … before this improvement if I need to know the coordinates of a stage of one of my mysteries or multi’s I had to dig through my pile of papers in my geo-drawer at home … NOW, I can just login as myself and view them right on the cache.

to “FuFu” … sorry for the long/detailed message, but in the long run I hope it shortens the “learning curve” for you and others. It’s important to note (as Grousetales indicated) that there are various TYPES of Additional Coordinates, ones that you can “hide” so only you and approvers can see them (your “secret” coordinates for mysteries and multis), and “published” coordinates for the world to see, which are TOTALLY OPTIONAL on your part (things like: “helpful parking coordinates”, or “where to enter the state park” or “POSTED steps of a multi or puzzle”. In my “example cache”, I showed the entrance to the park AND the various steps (park signs) that you have to visit, to get the missing clues to find the final location of the cache container. Also in my “example cache” there is one more waypoint that you can NOT see, the final location where the container is, that waypoint I marked as just for me and the approvers to see (in case I forget where I hid the darn thing, LOL).

I think Jeremy has a few bugs to work out yet. I did some more extensive testing of this feature this morning and found a few problems.

As the cache owner, I can see my hidden waypoints. When I download the .gpx file as the owner, all they waypoint show up. In the case of my Salute to Stute cache, all 8 waypoints were displayed.

Now, for some reason, when logged on as an admin, the .gpx file will only show the published waypoint and nothing else. The additional waypoints are not showing up in my special reviewer screen.

I’ve forwarded some bugs to Jeremy and hopefully he can get them worked out. Right now the feature is usefully for displaying the waypoints to the public, but the hidden ones are still elusive to the reviewers.

Oh no, that does “trash” have the advantage of this.

I’ve also noticed as the OWNER of the cache I don’t see the “hidden” ones on the normal cache listing screen (which makes sense), so the way to see the hidden ones is to go into the Waypoint mangement screen, which of course only the owner of the cache can do.

Also worth noting, if you are NOT logged in as a user, the Additional Waypoints disappear (just like the list coordinates for the cache do, which makes sense). BUT, if you log in as a non-Premium (non-paying) member (I have a 2nd account for events), you SEE the Waypoints on the screen, but they do NOT download if you click on the “download .loc file” choice on the cache page … plus as non-Premium the choice of “download .gpx file” goes away (which I assume it always did).
