I was talking with a friend of mine who is a sheriff deputy last night. He and some of his coworkers know about geocaching (I told them about geocaching so they won’t call the bomb squad on our caches). A week or two ago they were looking over a accident/crime scene in a public park in my county and found a large container. some of them assumed it was a goecache until the opened it up. Inside was half a bottle of rum, some water bongs, some marijuana, and other drug paraphernalia and a note. it said to use what you want but put it back when done(or something to that order). thank goodness it wasn’t listed on geocaching site (although he would like to know what site it might be listed on if possible ). talk about putting a bad name to our sport. Unfortunately the owner of the “cache” didn’t put their name on it, but if they wish they can pick it up at the sheriff’s office.

It was only a matter of time before some jerk took things to the next level. Remember when it was considered horrific to find a mini-pocket knife in a cache? I’ve cleaned a few of those out over the years. However, this new stuff is horrible.

I thought worrying about stumbling on a meth lab was bad enough. Now this…

Keep your eyes out folks. Work with the police and keep them informed about our hobby!

A few years back there was a cache near Madison used to exchange porn. I don’t remember the details but local cachers cleaned it up.
Every cacher is on the front lines.

I had a cache that I had to archive because of this. Someone kept going in and placing things in there that didn’t belong in a family friendly cache! Cachew rescued it, then I did, then a fellow cacher, then I gave up and asked Cachew to pull it for me. It stinks because the cache was in a very nice park. There are other caches in that park which were never touched, so this one was obviously a target.

Oh well…the friendship and basis for placement was archived, so why not the cache?! LOL!
