Just seen a blurb on TV that FOX 6 news is showing something on Geocaching tonite. I look forward to see who our newest “stars” are!
04/06/2006 at 1:27 am #1738944They’ve been advertising the spot as Caching with Condella, featuring FOX 6 weather guy Vince Condella. I wonder if he has a geocaching name. Can’t wait to see the feature story.
04/06/2006 at 2:29 am #1738945From the Fox 6 website…
quote:
Our first cache of “Caching With Condella” is in place and ready to find. Here are the coordinates:N 42 degrees, 55.187 minutes
W 087 degrees, 50.648 minutesThis cache is located in a Milwaukee County Park. It is an ammo box located about 33 feet directly east of a paved trail.
Here are some hints. Each one is encrypted in case you don’t want to see them all. And each successive hint gives away more of the location. The decryption code is located below.
Hint #1: Fjvatvat fbhgu ol gur ynxr
Hint #2: Orgjrra gur obhyqref
Hint #3: Gur cnex unf n “trareny” anzr
Hint #4: Ba gur tebhaq, byq ybt
Coordinates point to someplace in Grant Park. The cache does not appear to be listed on geocaching.com, and it is just 180 feet from GCV34A, SSSSlither to the totem pole.
I bet Uncle Fun has already scored the FTF, so there is no rush going after it…
04/06/2006 at 2:35 am #1738946i think i’ll trade in my baseball hat for a hat like vince condella has.
he’s got the “mr. mc feely” look going for him.
04/06/2006 at 2:37 am #1738947Pretty cool that they provide a link to the WGA site. Here’s the Fox 6 page: http://www.fox6milwaukee.com/
In the left column, click on Weather, then click on Caching with Condella.[This message has been edited by kbraband (edited 04-05-2006).]
04/06/2006 at 2:39 am #1738948Thanks for the viewing tip, Russ. They were at the Schlitz Audubon Center. Looks like they tried searching for “Teaching Vista”. Beats me as to how they didn’t find it. From the looks of it, they were practically right on top of it.
04/06/2006 at 2:55 am #1738949FIRST FINDER .. WOO HOO ..
04/06/2006 at 2:58 am #1738950I would suggest if you are going to find this one you should do it soon, it is in a spot that could quite easily be muggled.
We were 50 feet from it and encountered 4 men smoking. We walked past it, and watched them before going for it. I was glad I had talked my Dad into going with me so he could watch where they went while I opened the cache. It is quite difficult to be quiet opening an ammo can.
Not much for tradies, just photos with Vince Condella’s photo. From the log book, he signed it this morning around 9 AM.

04/06/2006 at 3:56 am #1738953I managed to capture a movie of the news footage. Sorry about the quality- I clipped off the first 10 seconds and the sound is rather poor. It was the best I could do with a digital camera and 10 seconds of foresight, but you get the idea.
20.63 MB Windows Media File- Probably worthwhile if you have broadband.

04/06/2006 at 4:00 am #1738954Thanks, it was nice to see the newscast I missed while I was out at the park.
04/06/2006 at 2:36 pm #1738955Swag is mostly Fox 6 paraphenalia. I grabbed a signed photo of Vince for my wife. She took a class of his at UWM many moons ago working on her undergrad. There’s also a bunch of Family Passes to the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center. Grab one of those and find the 3 caches hidden in the park.
180 feet to SSSSlither is about right, on the other side of the bike trail. Auntie Nae was too excited with the FTF she forgot to find this little gem.
04/06/2006 at 3:50 pm #1738956Actually, we had 4 muggles to contend with last night .. trying to be stealthy with the cache so close to the trail they were standing and walking down was challenging. There is nothing like opening an ammo box in the quiet of night … plus trying to take a couple of photos .. we were in and out of there .. I am glad to hear it is still there this morning, we purposely walked the long way around and out last night to make it look like we were out walking.
04/06/2006 at 7:16 pm #1738957Haven’t seen the article, doubt if I’ll do the cache.
But I was wondering if there might be a news or web cam pointed at this one?TygerD
