I have a disposable camera in my Spooky Nook cache and I am wondering how the cold weather will effect it. Maybe I should take it out until spring. Has anyone left such a camera in their cache over winter? Does it wreck them?

The cold temperatures will help to preserve the film in the camera but it can make it stiff and more difficult to advance. Plastic parts should be OK but condensation on metal parts may lead to corrosion. If the camera is kept in a moisture proof container, the camera should be fine.

Kodak provides a help line at 1-800-242-2424. I am sure other manufacturers do as well.

I have developed a couple cameras which had been out all winter. I didnt notice any problems at all. I found a bigger problem was not having a flash on the camera. I ended up with a lot of dark grainy photos, mostly from dusk/dawn photos.

I concur with GrouseTales. I have had cameras out during winter and never had a problem caused by the cold.

To view photos from two of my disposable cameras in place during winter months, check these links:

Those are some great pics. Thanks for sharing them with us. We’re new to geocaching and were thinking about placing a cache with a camera. You show that it’s a good idea even up in the snow. That’s neat.
