Found archived Cache – now what? – Wisconsin Geocaching Association

Ok, I went out while visiting family in MKE and found a cache that I didn’t realize has been archived. (GCGN96) Bridge over trouble waters

AuntieNae posted a note saying she could take over a cache in this area. Trudy & the beasts note says no response to contact (no shock 1 virt find, 1 hide).

What should I do here? Treat the cache like trash and pick it up when I get a chance? Leave it??

I would think the best route is to transplant any remaining goodies, and trash the container since it is broken anyway. But that leaves the log.

Thoughts or suggestions?

It’s great that you found it.

Technically it is trash, and as a any good geocacher knows…”Cache In Trash Out”.

Now, this is kind of special trash, and if it were me, I would attempt to contact the original owner, and if no luck, I could try and contact Anutienae, since they have shown interest in adopting it.

Oh yeah…

I would pick it up and take it with me, then try and contact those other people.

Awesome that it was found! I suspected it had floated down the stream with all the flooding or had been muggled since all the trees that had been around it were cut down where it originally was placed.

Please advise if you left it and I will go back for it.

Found and retrieved at 6:30 PM. A ways off the original mark, but I found it this time.

Watch for a new cache in this area with the contents soon.

Wow. Thanks. I just logged on an see that you didn’t even bother to wait for a reply.

Good for you! I’m glad a local is interested in this (We’re from the GB area, but have Abby’s grandparents near this cache.)

I was REALLY tempted to come down and join you on the magellin contest, but couldn’t do it..

I look forward to a new cache if you put a new one in the area!

I bought a few boxes earlier today .. I thought I would go check if it was somewhere and mark coordinates for a new cache at the same time. I just need to enter the other caches in the area to make sure they are far enough away .. and get the box painted .. it is a neat area, just want to be sure the new one is placed where it will not float away in flooding.
