Hi everyone. I just stumbled upon geocaching.com not too long ago and almost instantly I was hooked on the idea of geocaching. As a kayaker/mountain biker/hiker the concept that the journey is as rewarding as the destination really appealed to me. Also it gave me a good excuse to buy a GPS unit (which I hope to use in my car, kayak, bike, and geocaching). My GPS unit (Garmin GPS V) should arrive this Thursday but I still have no idea what really is involved in geocaching. I’ve read up on several FAQs regarding this sport but was hoping to learn the ropes from some experienced folks. Is there anyone from the Appleton area that goes out geocaching regularly that wouldn’t mind a rookie like me tagging along? Plus I figure it will take me a while to learn how to competently use my GPS unite. Thanks everyone and a special thanks to Cathunter who invited me here from Paddling.net.

10/19/2004 at 12:51 am #1740089A Huge Welcome to you!
I live in Manitowoc which is not too far away. I still have plenty of Appleton caches to do so I’d be happy to meet up with you and head out. There are others in the area that frequent these boards too, so I’m sure you’ll have plenty of company whenever you plan to go.
Unfortunately I may not be as much help on your specific GPS as I own a Mag SporTrak; but I’m sure we can teach each other something! Email me at TeamGeoPink at hotmail dit com if you’re interested.
Glad you could join us and I hope to see you on the trails.

After you have gotten some pointers on geocaching, i’ll take some pointers on my roll.
See you on the trails!
10/19/2004 at 1:54 am #1740091Welcome to the Geocaching community! I live just Southwest of Appleton in the Town of Menasha. I also have a GPS III and GPS V.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will do my best to help you out. (I can give advice on every cache within a 25 mile radius. I’m not sure which caches you have found in the area, but there are 4 at Buboltz and 4 at Plaman park that can be done without much driving.

arcangl7, I’d defitely be up for meeting up with you whenever you’re in the area. I’ll shoot you an email when I get to my home computer.
Miata, I actually haven’t even received my GPS unit yet (Thursday delivery) so I haven’t even seen my first cache yet. I really appreciate your offer for advice and info on the local caches. I’m sure I’ll have some questions on the GPS V as well. I noticed you’re a K-C employee. Me too! I’m a logistics analyst at the North building.
Cathunter, that sounds like a deal. I’d be more than happy to help you with your roll. See you on the trails, water, or both!
10/20/2004 at 1:22 am #1740093Then you probably know my wife who works at North on the Walmart team.
10/20/2004 at 12:34 pm #1740094That’s a really cool coincidence. Yeah I’m sure I do know your wife. I work right next to the Walmart team and I know them all. Is your wife Julie or Michelle?
