Papa Fishcacher bought me a download cable for christmas for my Garmin.
I finally busted it out of the package today to play with it. I find it has a serial port *hookup*. (remember, I’m somewhat technologically challenged so I might use funny words, lol.) My serial port is already being used for the cradle for my Palm Pilot. It would be a big PITA to have to pull out the CPU and undo one and hook up the other back and forth. Do I have any other options? Or am I just forever condemned to manual waypoint entering?~Mama Fishcacher
01/02/2005 at 7:02 pm #1740197One option would be to see if there is a USB cradle available for your PDA. They have been standard equipment since about 98′.
The other option is to get a USB to serial adapter.
This all assumes your PC has USB.
01/02/2005 at 7:33 pm #1740198I think I might have a USB serial adapter that I’m not using. Let me do a little digging around in my computer stuff. When I initially got my PDA I needed the adapter to connect it to my Mac. Now I also have an HP laptop & I don’t need the adaptor (the PDA & the Mac just never really synced right and I gave up on figuring it out.)

01/02/2005 at 10:30 pm #1740199Go to your local custom built computer shop and ask if they have any serial/parallel port cards (often for printers – before USB was popular) laying around in a box somewhere. Often they will just give it to you.
That’s what I’d do…
Hang on, I might even have one laying around… I’ll look.

Doh! >slaps self on forhead< We have our old computer downstairs…. I bet I could get Papa Fishcacher to take a serial port from that one and put it in the new 'puter here! (There are *some* things I'll take apart and attempt. Computer stuff is *NOT* one of them! LOL!)
Thanks!!!

Yes it does! (Phew!) That’s the one I plug my digital camera into.

Bec, that’s so nice of you to look for me! I’ll have PF try adding an extra serial port from the old ‘puter first. If it doesn’t work, I’ll buy your adapter from you!

01/03/2005 at 1:08 pm #1740203FYI usb can be spit with a hub (in theory 128 items hooked to it) so you can leave your camera pluged in. most hubs have 1 input and 4 outputs check ebay or officemax.
