While at the campout some told me there was a version 3.0+ that was WAAS enable. Seeing I had version 2.14 I thought it would be good idea to update.
Now the problem — Garmin does not list an update to 3.0. They only have and update to 3.30 if you have 3.0. So why can’t I get 3.0? What gives anyone know?
I’m not sure that you can.
I would think having WAAS is more than just having a software update, I would think there a little extra hardware inside the newer version GPS receiver to make it happen.
Unless I’m missing something, I think you can’t magically add WAAS to your GPSr.
I figured that might be the case but was holding out for good news.
You might be interested to know that while geocaching in the woods, chances of receiving a reliable WAAS signal with any GPS is very slim. There is really no need for WAAS while geocaching and it also reduces battey life. Most of us leave WAAS turned off for these reasons.

I use WAAS this way: When I can’t find a cache I walk thru the menus of my GPSr to turn on WAAS. By the time I get it turned on, both I and the GPSr are ‘settled down’ enough to renew the search. For me, WAAS is strictly a placebo.

Is that how you find dead animals disguised as geocaches?
