Is there a way to identify the type of icon a waypoint should have so when it is exported to GPSr it will have that type of icon?

    Example:

    Micros have circle icon
    traditional caches have square icon
    multi have triangle

Yes, there are two possible levels:
A selectable icon for each type (traditional, multiple etc).

A second level includes a selectable icon to reflect both type and status (traditional-found, multiple-placed etc).

Personally I prefer the first level because there are too many symbols to keep straight when using the second level.

Micros (size) are handled as a special case.

The choices are made in the download-to-GPSr menus and/or the export dialogs.

this isn’t what you asked but i wanted to say you can do some really cool things with gsak.
in my legend C i really wasn’t a big fan of the geocache mode because basicly all it did for me was give me the ability to mark caches as found. the down side is every cache has he same icon.
you can have custom icons in the legend c, you have to upload them with ximage program from garmin. so i got ahold of a bunch of cache type icons(you can make your own but why bother when there out there for free).

gsak has all the cache type icons already, but you have to make a text file called garminother with the data telling gsak which of it’s icons is which custom waypoint in your gps. now when i send waypoints over i can see my cache types, not just open/closed treasure boxes. the down side the unit see these as a regular waypoint so you cant mark anything as found. this isn’t a big deal for me since i never do enough caches in a given day to get confused.

you can find out more info about doing this searching the geocaching.com forums
(the search feature is down on there right now it seems)

also, I wanted to say that I used gsak well over 100times and after clicking the send waypoints button I had never really looked at the box that pops up to closly before i clicked the send button again. I totally missed the change button.(where you change icon settings)

I should have seen it, wonder what else I’m missing?
