I have a PalmOne Zire 31 Palm Pilot and don’t have a clue how to download the clues, waypoints etc… whatever else I can put on it, into it. I became a premium member on geo-cache.com to do this, but I am a bit technologically challenged and wondered if someone could explain in SIMPLE terms how this works and how to do it. Much appreciated!

True! But only if your going the Plucker route, rather than CacheMate. Not sure it will be any easier for a non-techy. Maybe I’m wrong.

This website is the only one I can find showing screen shots of CacheMate, but I don’t think it goes far enough into detail for non-techies: http://www.mdgps.org/modules.php?name=cachemate

Or the Smittyware Cachemate Quick Start Guide (buy you need to be able to unzip the files): http://www.smittyware.com/contrib/

It is a lot to get started but once you get past the all the set up using it actually is very simple.

I think everyone has just about covered it.

Knowing you live near West Bend, let me know if I can help you further.

Oops, by the way, I use Plucker and I have not become too user savy with Cachemate.

If you decide the Plucker route I can help; cachemate help I cannot.

Thanks so much everyone for your help! Your instructions Energysaver will save me a ton of energy (ha) and also headaches! I will definitely try this and see how it goes. I am familiar with computers, just not so up on the Palm and GPS, but getting there with all these nice folks helping me! Thank you!

BWQ I am interested to meet you! Sounds like you have loads of fun with a certain friend of mine from West Bend. I appreciate the offer of help. I am planting some more caches in my area, hope you enjoy finding them. 🙂

        “ARGH – I know it’s here somewhere…”

BQ – I think it’s time your try CacheMate. It’s free, to load 10 caches and test it. Try it, you will like it!

Now, how to get Tami into the computer age …..

I just got a Palm for Christmas and downloaded Cachemate. It is fantastic. Now we no longer are restricted to caches we printed out pages for. You just load in the nearest 500 and head out. I’m not an expert, and maybe there’s a way to load GPX files directly into the plam but I have GSAK (another program download) on my computer and use that to export to the Cachemate program on the palm. If there’s another way I’m sorry to add confusion. I hope it all goes smoothly for you!

        Oh – so tempting…..

Now that I have dsl and downloading is so quick, perhaps one of these days I’ll try it.

As for Tami….she’s got me Don’t take away that from me!

Let’s give her a lot of credit, she’s come a long way in the past year and a half I’ve been caching with her!
