Anybody have good suggestions for removing old state park stickers from your windshield…besides picking and scraping?
01/02/2006 at 7:30 pm #1741110I did a search on here for a previous topic. Seems waaaaaaaay back in 2002, GrouseTales came up with the idea of using a hair dryer for removal. From the topic comments, it sounds as if it works well.
I figure I’ll just keep making circles arond my windshield LOL

PEANUT BUTTER???
ROFLMBO Now I HAVE heard everything. Gotta go try it JUST to see the outcome. The neighbors will really know I’m nutz now
The Sticker Shieled is an AWESOME idea though.

01/02/2006 at 8:02 pm #1741114Heat it up with a heat gun/hair dryer, then use a razor blade scraper to get most of it off. Use starting fluid/ether (or WD40, if that is all you have) to loosen up and remove the remaining glue. Once the ether comes out, put the heat gun away so you don’t start a fire!
Removed my 2004 sticker a couple weeks ago to make room for the 2006 sticker using this method and it took less than 5 minutes.
The “sticker shield” is technically illegal, but I use something similar on my motorcycles because it would be nearly impossible to remove a sticker from these highly curved plastic shields without damaging them. I stick the sticker to a piece of clear vinyl, then tape this to the windshield with a bunch of clear packing tape.

I don’t think he’s trying to replace one from a broken window.

01/03/2006 at 3:35 am #1741119Why don’t they just issue a card where you can just keep it in your glove compartment, and then place it on your dashboard by the driver’s side while you enter these parks? Either that or some color coded yearly sticker that could go on the front license plate?

01/03/2006 at 4:57 am #1741120Or why not use what they do now? Lots of places use stickers for entrance and/or parking. The only thing that I don’t like is that they are so large. (Between work and play, I have 3 stickers on my windshield.)
01/03/2006 at 6:12 am #1741121Be careful while installing the new stickers, 4 of the 5 that I installed tore in half. The 2006 stickers don’t seem to be as durable as they have been in the past.
For removing the old stickers I found a razor blade scraper with a long handle that worked very well. I also felt that the adhesive was actually easier to remove while it was cold. The warmed adhesive just gummed up the edge of the blade.
01/03/2006 at 4:48 pm #1741122Some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball easily removes the “gummed up” junk.
01/03/2006 at 5:32 pm #1741123That would let people share the card with others and short change the park system.
