I am having trouble figuring out how to download gsak files into my Legend C. The Legend C uses a regular USB port cable. When I attempt to download the files it says hardware not recognized.
Anybody have this model and have a pointer on what I need to do to make it work????
Thanks a lot.

It’s all one cache.01/24/2006 at 2:21 am #1741141Zuma,
I don’t have a Legend C but I helped my father-in-law with his. I only had a short time working with it but the solution I found was to export to mapsource and then into the Legend C via USB. I don’t know if there’s another solution but I know that works.
01/24/2006 at 4:06 am #1741142I have the legendC and also use gsak. In GSAK, go to GPS, setup, now in the box that opens set the brand to garmin and check the box to use USB.
if you are still having problems I would make sure you have the USB driver for the legendC installed(will be on the cd that came with it)another option if you need the USB driver is to download it from garmin. http://www.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00358-00
01/24/2006 at 5:20 am #1741143Did some quick research for you on the GSAK support forum http://www.gsak.net/board/index.php?
First, make sure you have installed the USB drivers from your Mapsource/WP Manager CD. The Legend C is only USB, and the drivers you need are on the CD, but not part of any version of Windows that I know of. (Tough luck if you are a linux user.) Here’s a thread.
http://www.gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=962&hl=legend+CSecond, in GSAK, make sure you have selected Garmin as the GPS type and have USB checked on the GPS setup page.
Finally, make sure you don’t have a Legend Cx. Apparently our friends at Garmin, in their infinite wisdom, have decided that they needed to change the protocol for the x series, so that it no longer works with GPS Babel, and by extension GSAK, Google Earth, and a wide variety of other applications which rely on GPS Babel. The poor guys at GPS Babel are trying to work it out, but apparently they changed about everything, making the protocol more like their StreetPilot protocol. If you have a Cx, you are going to have to do the Waypoint Manager thing until GPS Babel gets it figured. http://www.gpsbabel.org/garminx.html
Good luck!

01/24/2006 at 1:10 pm #1741144Well, Zuma, Seth and I said you’d get an answer here!
Hopefully you do not have a CX!
Still have the CD?
Good luck, as they say …………..
Report back on your success rate.

01/24/2006 at 9:05 pm #1741145I forgot to tell you one more thing. First, install the drivers. Next, reboot. Next, plug in your cable into the GPS. Next, plug in your cable into the computer. This should maximize the chance that your computer recognizes everything correctly.

01/26/2006 at 12:05 am #1741148Hey, thanks a ton for all the help. I am going to try to download the driver. Unfortunatley, I dont have the CD that came with it, and dont even recall getting one.
How do you tell a Legend C from a Legen Cx? Mine just says Legend C, so I am assuming it is not a Cx. Plus it is about a year old, so I think it must be a C.
Again, thanks. I will report back after I try again.

If its a year old, its not a Cx, which was just released. I am assuming it would say Cx on it, but who knows?

01/27/2006 at 1:50 am #1741151THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
Many thanks for all who offered ideas on how to correct this problem, especially Cathunter, whose suggestion proved to be the one that worked for me. I was able to download the software, and after multiple missteps, finally was able to make it work. I am so excited. I really abhor sitting at the computer, fiddling with stuff like that, but I do believe that it is going to be worth it.
The computer GSAK now recognizes my Garmin, and I was able to download some waypoints…. Now I need to get to one of those paperless classes and learn how to do all the fancy stuff Marc and Seth tried to show me. I also need to figure out the PDA, but that is a battle for a different day.
Again, thanks a ton!!!!!
