There aren’t a lot of caches in the Wood County area (WI Rapids, Marshfield, etc) and I would like to try a seed cache. If any of you that have placed one have any tips or tricks, I would appriciate the input.
Do cachers think seed caches are a good idea or just a pain? I’d like any and all input. Thanks!

04/25/2006 at 4:17 pm #1741324We had placed our first “seed” cache during this past winter. We placed it to commemorate the fact that we live in an area where the world’s largest freshwater chain of lakes is located, thus referring to our “seeds” as “chains” instead. The geocaching waypoint name is GCRTM1. Hope this gives you some ideas.
Timberline Echoes04/25/2006 at 10:31 pm #1741325Seed caches have been placed so that more caches are “grown” from one. So, if I place a “seed” cache I might have pill bottles in the cache and you can take one. Before you can log it as a ‘find’ you need to place and have approved your own cache.
I’m trying to figure out a way for people to place caches of all sizes not just micros (as male Honeybunny puts it) “Christmas tree hides”. LOL
I like how TE lets you sign the log book for a find and then you get a bonus find for placing a cache without other restrictions, other than those already in place.

1st – micro
2nd – small
3rd – large
4th – micro, etcIf someone does not log, say a large, than eveerything stops. However, I do not think that would be a problem.

LOLHow about placing LARGE container, like a garbage can or a crate deep in a relatively inaccessible area, like a marsh or an island or just deep in the forest, and then fill it with ammo cans or other regular size containers for people to take? Admittedly this would be a bit expensive to set up and maintain, but if you want to seed regular caches, this would do it. The added benefit would be that the only people seeking this cache would be those willing to brave the more difficult terrain, and would thus be more likely to place the new cache in their own choice of challenging terrain.
