I think it would be too cool to have cat*[email protected] as my e-mail address. Even if it just forwarded to my regular e-mail acount. I think others would be interested too.
Maybe the WGA could sell e-mail addresses to it’s members to add to the treasurer’s kitty?
10/16/2012 at 11:45 am #1744157I second that
10/16/2012 at 7:29 pm #1744158Every one that is reading this right now. Please leave a reply saying If you think its a good idea to have your own geocaching email adderss so you do not have to give out your personal address to people. If you think it is a bad idea please tell me why. Lets get as many yes’s as we can and then i will present this to the web commitee.
10/16/2012 at 9:19 pm #1744159Opposed.
I don’t believe the mission of the WGA includes being an email forwarder. I also don’t believe the WGA should be in this “business”.
I also don’t think an online petition to force the issue is appropriate considering those that maintain the site are all volunteers.
10/16/2012 at 10:49 pm #1744160Our squirrels that run the website are allready taxed too much, If this was put on the list of things to do, it might fall pretty low
10/16/2012 at 10:59 pm #1744161No one has addressed this issue in over eight years, so I don’t think that it is one that is exactly “hot-button”.
If people are concerned about giving out their “real” email addresses, they can just make up one on one of those free sites and use that for all things geocaching. Many have already done that, and we use a combination of the two. Most people are aware of this option by now.
10/16/2012 at 11:00 pm #1744162There is an easy solution to the concern regarding personal emails. Just create an email for yourself at one of the free sites, like “fitbobcatcache@yahoo and use it exclusively for your caching business. That way, our volunteers here can concentrate on those things that really grow the sport in our great state, like providing events, outreach and community education.
10/16/2012 at 11:13 pm #1744163I think this would be cool, but agree that it is not the mission or part of the role of our volunteer BOD and others significant.
10/17/2012 at 12:45 am #1744164I agree that while initially cool there are too many other options out to get the an email address with your the own caching name and then let the squirrel and his lackeys spend time on more WGA funadventures.
Following the signals from space.
10/17/2012 at 1:05 am #1744165The Squirrel has lackeys??? 😯
10/17/2012 at 1:39 am #1744166Not to mention the cost of having a mail server big enough to handle the volume.
10/17/2012 at 4:37 am #1744167A concern of mine that hasn’t been mentioned yet is that if someone had a wi-geocaching address, and said or did something boneheaded, it could reflect badly on the whole organization, even though the actions or messages from that email address wouldn’t necessarily reflect the policies or opinions of the WGA. I like the idea of the officers of the organization having such an address, but to open it up to all members might lead to some embarrassing situations down the road.
10/17/2012 at 1:43 pm #1744168I’d rather we spend our time making the site automatically lock threads with no comments for two years or more. 🙂
