Since I’m visiting near Seattle, WA and have had a bunch of contacts with locals on a cache where I experienced some difficulty, I decided to check out the Washington State Geocaching Association.
A couple of notable differences…
1) No visible discussion boards on their web site. Ouch. I really enjoy wasting…I mean spending…time here.
2) Mandatory dues for membership. It appears at first blush that all you get for your dues is voting rights. No idea what you’d get to vote on since there are no discussion archives to check out.
3) A “Membership Map” on their web site showing where their members live and where one (may sometimes both but currently only one) of their chapters have meetings. I think they used the same technique posted here in our discussion boards to map finds. Each member sends in their home coordinates and the BoD maintains the map. *I like this idea* We could put the “next breakfast”, picnic and campout sites on the map along with our membership.
4) They don’t appear to have as much “stuff” in their online store. The stuff they do have looks rather like ours with a different logo. No surprise here.
