I’m a little troubled by fastening things to a tree by using nails or screws. For example, I wanted to sell a black walnut tree in my yard but just for the fact that an eye-hook was in it, two tree companys said it was worthless where an undamaged tree could bring $1,500. My neighbor showed me their receipt for theirs. Can we collectively agree to discourage hardware penetrating a live tree? I’m sure forest managers would use such an incident to further argue against us.

We originally were going to use reflectors in our ‘Tales from the Crypt’ cache, but after reflection, felt this was a bad idea.
I don’t think tags banded to trees are bad, as long as they are loose enough for the tree to grow, are they?
If reflectors are used, what about those reflecting thumbtacks that are specifically made for hunters and others to mark trails? Do they do permanent damage? Since they are specifically made for this purpose, what do you think of them?
Tags fastened with fishing leader like used on Nature Hill is a great idea, provided they are not allowed to remain and have the tree grow around them. Things entering into the the bark should have no negative affect on the trunk, I would think. I don’t have a big beef about nails and such but can picture a park manager going balistic over it. Lord know that the landowners love to nail “No Trespassing” signs to trees.
