What a week. Last Saturday I was blowing snow from my driveway and later that night was in Panama City Florida. About .5 miles from my room was a geocache. Drove me nuts not being able to swim the bay and dig it up. Supposedly hidden in the sand. I had enough business to keep my mind off it though. I, as many air travelers, had missed connections. By the time my Delta flight got to Atlanta, my connection had departed and already landed in Florida. Delta isn’t very accomidating under those conditions. Rather than pull up a piece of carpet and wait 12 hours, I rented a one way car to from Hertz. Got a nice Mustang with a big engine. Would have been a nice 300 ride through Georgia, Alabama and Florida but it was dark and raining. Sometimes too hard to continue driving. My Hertz map only covered Georgia so I was very glad that I had my Garmin eMap with me. I had loaded Florida detail but nothing in Georgia and Alabama. Still, I had enough base map detail to navigate and get to Panama City without getting lost save one missed turn from I-185 and ended up talking with guards at the entrance of Fort Bennington. I think that’s the name.
Being a pilot, ham radio operator and believer in don’t ask and don’t tell to justify my use of the GPS in the jet, I found that my flight back attained 35,500 feet and a top speed of 508 MPH.
More than ever, I am pleased that I decided to buy the Garmin eMap.

Thanks for the story of your travels, Steve. I have to agree with your conclusion. I’ve had my eMap for two years and thinks it a great unit. I especially like the large display. It’s like having another panel instrument when I velcro it to the dash of the car or boat. Also nice when mounted on the bicycle handlebar, or placed in a plastic baggie with some flotation material when I canoe. (That’s the only downside — not waterproof and doesn’t float).
