When did the Cache of the Month graphic on the main page start blinking? (CacheCows: I see you replaced the graphic with ani_cachemonth.gif). When I first saw this, I thought I was seeing things… it just looked really strange to me.

Does anyone else think the blinking graphic is annoying, or do you guys see a useful purpose?

I figured it was just something Alan did as the end of the month approaches. I wouldn’t want to see it blinking all the time.

Correct, the blinking icon was Alan’s idea to see if we could get a few more votes for favorite caches this month. I think he plans for it to stay on there till the end of the month, but I can be bribed to remove it early. – Arn

I asked Arn to put the blinker on during the last 7 days of each month. The link is also changed during those days to go directly to the submit form. On the first, the blink will go away and the link will go back to the top of the page to display that month’s winner.

If you don’t like it, we can remove it. I’m just hoping to stimulate folks submitting their favorite cache hunts. Other wise we’ll need to delete the concept, and I know the winners and runner ups have appreciated the recognition.

You win. I give. I promise I will vote for “Cache of the Month” if you MAKE THE BLINKING STOP!!!

Come on, everybody, let’s get those votes in now. Do your part to “Stop the Blinking!”

No, wait! I like the blinking!
Once it caught my eye, it managed to distract my attention away from my navel, which I was contemplating at the time, and I think I found Nirvanna!
Now if I can just figure out a way to place a cache there…

OK, the blinking is off the home page. But just remember, if we don’t get enough votes now or in the future, it could come back and may even mutate into something worse!

    Aww, I liked the blinking.

I wonder what else could be used to bring attention to the vote toward the end of the month?

Perhaps make the font red for a few days.

Cookie related blinking message that would stop blinking once you vote?

Sam, we love your caches… but we refuse to search for them in your navel!

We have not heard any comments good, bad, or otherwise on what folks think of the new last week of the month animated graphic on the WGA home page to draw attention to vote for your favorite cache.

Is this one less irratating than last month’s blinker? Does it draw attention? Enquiring minds want to know

I like it a lot CC.

    Nice gentle reminder.

Seeing that I didn’t even notice it, I’d say its PERFECT

Oh great, so much for it being effective!

Guess we’ll switch to neon flashers…
