This is probably early but:
Can someone publish a schedule or website of the hunting seasons? Obviously the bow and gun hunting seasons but any other times (such as the special herd culls to prevent disease).
I’m not a hunter and I don’t want to become hunted while geocaching. Besides, I don’t look good in orange.
Shucks, and I was making a hat with antlers and a duck between them for a door prize at the picnic.
Who does look good in orange?
I still would prefer orange to red or even worse, black. The season is coming (along with football) and we should be prepared.Below is a link that will show you all regular hunting seasons in Wisconsin.
The main ones to be concerned about are obviously the gun deer season Nov 21- Dec 11, and Pheasant season Oct 19 – Dec 31.
It just makes common sense to wear blaze orange clothing (vest or hat) when on public lands during these time frames.
People searching for the caches at Bong should be especially careful about wearing orange during the above mentioned pheasant season. Bong is open to pheasant hunting and they get about 200 hunters per day at the park.

One concern I have is I’ve seen the signs from the DNR that says “no hunting/trapping” etc.. are there trappers in our neck of the woods? I think about that alot when I am bushwhacking through tall grasses.. last thing I’d like to encounter is a trap around my ankle.. has that ever happened to a geocacher yet in any other state??.. just a concern.. not trying to give anyone nightmares (grins)
~The Lil OtterIt is extremely unlikely that you would ever encounter any traps on your adventures.
Most traps are submerged in small streams, drainage ditches or culverts. Foot hold traps have a maximum opening of 5 1/2 inches. If you did step on one, it would be like stepping on a mouse trap; it would spring but not catch you. You would have to stick a finger or a toe into the center of the trap to get caught.
The only cachers that would need to be somewhat concerned would be those that bring their dogs along with them.
I spend hundreds of hours in the fields each fall hunting with my field champion pointer (shameless plug) and have NEVER had a dog find a trap. The odds are highly unlikely.
Bottom line: nothing to worry about.
BTW, otter season is Dec 7 – March 2. Otter traps are usually placed under the ice. Stay on the terra firma and you’ll be safe
