I just read a message about a cache idea that was shot down by one of Jeremy’s aid’s or himself. It’s a “worked all counties” for Utah where if you have found a cache in each county, you will get coordinates of a reward cache. If this is elitist, then so would a currently popular but limited cache idea most or all of us here are participating in. Please take the time to got to geocaching.com in the general message section and add your vote on this cache concept. Personally, I’d like to see a “Worked All Counties-WI”. Once a cache is logged in each county, you would receive the coordinates of a reward cache. Perhaps a cache of items donated by businesses and people.

I saw that post. I don’t see how it could be considered “elitist”. Their reasoning was something like: only a certain few that had the ability to geocache the entire state would be eligible, so it’s “elitist”.

That would be like saying that you couldn’t post a find for going to the campout because not everyone has the ability to get away for a weekend for something like that.

This seems like it would be a good idea for something different. While I don’t think we would have a chance it sure would be fun trying. This doesn’t sound anymore elite than some of the other stuff. Lets hope he will change his mind after some responses.

I jts added my vote in favor (for reference, the thread is HERE).

I can not understand the logic behind denying that cache…

I’ve seen this whole “elitist” debate before at geocaching.com. When Jeremy started selling the “charter memberships” along with the ability to list a cache as a mocache (members only cache) some people started screaming elitist. It seems that people throw the elitist label on just about anything they don’t like or that may be too difficult or time consuming.

Heck, one could consider Geocaching itself elitist, because unless you own or purchase a GPSR, you would have a heck of a time trying to participate

I personally don’t see anything wrong with the “worked all counties” concept. I don’t really see the point to it, but I find nothing wrong with the concept itself.

My philosophy is simply this: If I don’t like the concept behind a cache, i simply don’t hunt it. But I certainly don’t want to stop others who might enjoy it from going out to get it.

I see that popular opinion won and the cache is approved. They had to get one last dig in and say that they hope there isn’t a bunch of copy cat caches springing up. Well let’s see, how many counties in Wisconsin…?

72 counties in Wisconsin Steve, a lot more than the 29 in Utah. Haven’t actually looked, but I bet there are at least a half dozen or so counties in Wisconsin that still have no geocache. So step one of creating your “Worked All Counties-WI” cache would be place caches in these ‘dead’ counties .

We hear the same issue in Amateur radio, many think that the “Working All States” type of certificate is elitist…the arguement goes back and forth all of the time. No one is really every right…just opinionated.

In light of several counties in Wisconsin not having any caches…we all need to get busy and start spreading the word of our cool hobby.

    Excellent idea jimbo!

We have in the past looked at Buxley’s maps to try and pick empty areas, but have frankly never paid any attention to the county lines.

A goal of a cache in every county is a very worthy one

Glad to here it was approved and like I said it would be interesting to keep track of doing one in each county in WI but I can’t see that we would do this as a goal to complete in a certain amount of time. Lets try and get something going in the counties with no caches yet. Then the opportunity would be available if someone had the time.

I did some research and located what I hope is a correct list of countys without caches. Ashland, Iron, Price, Pepin, Chippewa, Taylor, Lincoln, Langlade, Shawano, Kewaunee, Marquette, Richland, Green. There is also Menominee Res. but that would really be Elitist since your not allowed to be on it alone in most places unless you have the blood for it. It really isn’t a county since it is a nation in its own right. Let me know if anyone finds a mistake in this list. I’m going to try to get some caches in Langlade and Shawano soon. I’m always up for a mission.

Thanks for putting together that list, nice work!

Hmm, actually a nation! That would be cool, because then Jeremy would have to add ‘1’ to the number of countries with caches on geocaching.com, wouldn’t he?

I’m going up to the Upper Penninsula this summer to help my dad build a deck, and to place a cache in a spot that is devoid of them. We’ll be right next to Iron County (Hurley), so maybe I’ll place it there instead.

I will be near minocqua this summer for a week with lots of time on my hands. I can put out 2 or 3 cashes in nearby counties that don’t currently have them. (ashland, price,?) Mark
