And even if it were, what the heck would I be blowing up in the middle of a wildlife preserve? Squirrels? And if you saw a suspicious container out in the wild that you thought was a bomb, would you really start poking at it with a stick, and then open it? Grr… ack… mmmrph… 1…2…3…4…5…6…7…8…9…10… breathe…… I glad that Team Cachebarr came out OK. I’d feel really guilty about all this if the confrontation turned nasty. I think this is the first time I’ve heard of someone getting caught mid-plunder… So what do you all think? Keep the cache where it is, or disable it? It’s a shame, because I thought that this would be a place where it could be out in the open (due to the nature of the container, it kind of had to be. If you’ve seen it, you know why…), yet not have to worry about anyone stumbling across it. I guess I was wrong. Sigh. 12/16/2002 at 2:34 pm #1745064Upon reading the recent post, it was pretty obvious the hunter intended to steal the cache and got caught with his hand in the cookie jar by Team Cachebarr. As I posted after I found it, I felt this was a very good cache — the effort, the originality, the location. I was concerned about the possibility of it being plundered because the container was left out in the open. I believe all you need to do to perfect this cache hunt is conceal the cache container. There are plenty of hiding spots around there where only a geocacher would look for it. Concealing the cache better may prevent further unintentional finds, but this guy knows about it and is bound to talk. He’ll probably show a few people or keep checking back on it. It is bound to keep causing problems. If this is indeed near his bow hunting spot, there is probably going to be more confrontations. The guy may get tired of seeing more cachers then deer and get rid of the cache. It’s true that pheasant hunting has daily closures at 2PM in this area, but all other hunting is still open for the rest of the day. I’m really looking forward to finding this cache myself. Although I had planned on bringing my dog and Citori along to do some pheasant hunting, perhaps I should bring my mine sweeper and kevlar bomb suit instead . But seriously, I would find another spot before it disappears completely. BTW, what happened to the midi music on the cache page? I liked it. It can only be approached through about 50-75 feet of bushwacking and the view was totally obscured to the north. From the other sides, there is quita a bit of brush between it and any passable trails. I believe this hunter came upon cachers in pursuit and then decided to go back and take a look himself on the following day. All I’m implying is that when you place a pretty gift-wrapped box in the woods, if it’s not concealed it’s more likely to be tampered with or stolen by non-geoachers than if it is concealed. The cache was very conspicuous when I found it. I spotted it from many feet away while I was still standing on one of the more traveled paths. Although thorny, the underbrush there is not dense and is fairly easy to see through. 12/17/2002 at 12:42 am #1745069I am sorry to have caused such a stir! But I did feel the need to be honest about our experience. By the way the hunter had talked to us, he hunts there very frequently and knows the area. And Trudy & the Beast may be right, when he seen Roman Geoskis the day before, he may have went to investigate the next day to see why they were in that part of the woods with no intentions of hunting. I don’t know if his intentions would be to come back and take the geocache away again, but I do know he knows it’s there and when I returned to my vehicle he was there speaking to another hunter and they both approached me about wearing orange…with that, I’m sure the other hunter may have kept a more opened eye while he was travelling in the woods to see if he could find it and investigate the contents. I would just hate to see this geocache get archived completely. The nature of it with the Christmas season makes for a great family cache hunt!…..but, I am concerned of its location! 12/17/2002 at 1:42 am #1745070Loved the hunt and the idea. But I did wonder why you did not select a non-hunting area? For future consideration, perhaps we need to have some kind of press release for hunting clubs about something else that they may find in the woods and maybe even convince the DNR to make mention of geocaches in the rules booklets.

For that reason I will probably move it elsewhere. Now that I think about it, I wonder what Bong’s policy is? I don’t know if I put it in my log but when I showed up to locate the final cache, I was wearing blaze orange coat and cap. The attendant asked me where I was going and I mentioned ”the site”. She told me that there was deer hunting until 2PM but that I should have no trouble. That should all be over with. If you relocate it around there, everyone would have a chance to buy their 2003 state sticker.

In Waukesha COUNTY parks, my answer is: “C” The Waukesha County Parks really pi$$ me off. It’s ridiculous to pay $3-$5 per park, per day, to enter the grounds. The cost of a yearly County sticker is too high IMHO, and Way too high for a Non-County resident sticker. The State park sticker has value, County park stickers are a SHAM! 12/19/2002 at 1:40 am #1745075Well…I’ve long felt that users should pay. I’ve snuck into parks in the past but since I’ve started geocaching I’ve got state stickers on my car and motorcycle as well as a Waukesha sticker on the car. What frys me is taking my OTHER car or motorcycle to a park and I don’t have a sticker. What’s the big deal about fastening the sticker to the windshield using its own adhesive? My wife had a handicap tag for a while and it could be moved from vehicle to vehicle. Why not the same for a state or county tag? Anyway, I’m just getting both stickers so I can breeze in and not suffer the wrath of smokey.

(grins) My b’day is in March so I’ll be back by then … ~The Lil Otter ps.. sorry about that hunter.. what a jerk to unwrap all the presents. He knew others were coming there by just checking the log book.. so there was no excuse for his behaviors at all. 12/26/2002 at 4:49 am #1745077After you purchase your first state park sticker, you can purchase stickers for your other vehicles at haft price. Not as good as being able to move the sticker, but that way I do not find that I always have the “wrong” vehicle when I want to enter a state park.
