Anyone not getting their pocket quiries since Friday and having them sent to a Road Runner account? It appears that some security at .RR.com is blocking emails from some portions of Groundspeak. I tried emailing someone through groundspeak that had a wi.rr.com address and got two replies, one from groundspeak and one from security.rr.com that they were blocked for some reason.
12/30/2003 at 4:47 am #1746091Now that you mention it…i’m on wi.rr.com & have not seen a pocket query all weekend. I also recieved some spam today, which is abnormal, as I am somewhat protective of my e-mail address. I wonder if THIS is what’s happening? Let me know if you learn anything more.
12/30/2003 at 2:47 pm #1746092That’s the message that I got when trying to email one of the locals through the geocaching.com email service. I’m going back to the national board and see whats going on. Some .rr.com people there also seem to have been blocked since Friday.
12/30/2003 at 4:26 pm #1746093Would it help to receive the files in a .zip format? (if your not already getting them that way). Perhaps RR is scanning your incoming mail and rejecting it for virus like activity?
For some reason, some of the queries flag my virus software and I can’t open the queries. When I changed to a zip file, they sneak through the anti-virus.
Just a thought…
12/30/2003 at 4:47 pm #1746094I noticed my missing queries and assumed it was temporary. I just saw this thread and my blood pressure went thru the roof. I fired off emails to every administrative RR address to try and get this removed. So far, only lame automated responses.
My interpretation of the RR gibberish is that mail is blocked based upon address (domain or IP is not specified) so the zip technique may not work. I’m goin to try it anyway.
I dislike what RR did on principle. “Kill them all and let God sort them out” is the worst (laziest) form of administration.
12/30/2003 at 4:51 pm #1746095Everyone should be aware, even if they do not subscribe to Road Runner/Time Warner that emails sent via geocaching.com, and logs are not being received by anyone that does subscribe to RR. This has been going on since the 26th.

12/31/2003 at 1:59 am #1746097The thread about this on geocaching.com is http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=61141&st=0&#entry757251 . I’ve been firing off messages to security.rr.com also and so far have only received automated replies which condense down to say ”tough luck”.
12/31/2003 at 2:16 am #1746098I talked to a human at RR. Then I talked to his supervisor. He confirmed that the proper procedure is to send a message to [email protected] with the address of the blocked sender as the subject ([email protected]).
He said that they process these messages every 6 hours and to call him back if it doesn’t work tomorrow (Wednesday).
12/31/2003 at 2:22 am #1746099After reading the entire thread linked-to in Steve’s message I followed the same procedure with “signal.groundspeak.com”
12/31/2003 at 11:02 pm #1746100The fix didn’t work for me. I switched my geocaching.com account to another email service. At the same time I’m firing email messages all over road runner to try and get it fixed.
01/01/2004 at 1:35 am #1746101Phew… Finally I received a PQ via another email address… I feel better now..
I’ve sent off a few emails myself, haven’t seen any change.. Although, I must admit, I don’t know too much about the “nuts and bolts” of what’s really going on…
What are the odds that this thing eventually gets worked out?

Team Flushingrouse01/01/2004 at 2:29 am #1746102I changed one quiry to a zip file. Didn’t get it. Also added one to be sent to my Hotmail address. It has been over 24 hours. I’m getting withdrawl symptons… anyone got the geocacher’s annonymous hotline number? Brrrr….
01/01/2004 at 2:53 am #1746103My guess: It will get fixed when groundspeak stops formatting their emails in a way that makes them look like spam. BUT, I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts that they were originally put on the list of “spammers” just based upon the sizes of the queries. Bottom line: we’re screwed.
My conversations with RR support have always been with people that agree with my/our point of view. They sympathize but have no authority. They also say it may take a week before the removeal (see earlier post) takes effect.
01/01/2004 at 3:15 am #1746104I have some daily queries set up that I would be glad to forward to whoever needs one. An approver search I have gives me 500 caches in s/e wisconsin.
