Hello I came across this Palm + gps on the web and I want to know if it is a good deal.
The price seems great!
$99.00 for the Palm
$179.99 Magellan WAAS, GPSr is only $20.00
(With rebates that end on the 15th tomorrow)
(Or $49.99 with rebates that end on 31st)But I don’t know anything about palms and don’t know if I would be happy with it. The intended use would be for paperless Geocaching only! Would the 8 megs be enough? Expandable? Would I need to buy more software? Anyone tested one of these GPSr’s with Palm yet?

I have been happy using the Mobipocket reader custom pocket queries from the Geocaching.com website. From what I understand 8 megs can handle plenty of pages. I haven’t tried plucker or spinner yet, but I’m itching to.
I don’t know about that GPSr, I have a Garmin V.01/14/2004 at 9:22 pm #1746158I used the GPS Companion / Palm m515 combination for the first 95 caches I’ve done. The GPS works fantastic in all weather and tree cover! I could put it in my coat pocket and not worry about it loosing the signal. The screen is nice and big and in color. The memory on the Palm is plenty for Cachemate which is what I use. There is software available for mapping using this combination but only tried the trial version. It did work pretty slick though. Memory on the Palm is not an issue as there is an SD slot to increase the available memory. The only real downside to this combination is that they are not waterproof. I did have pretty good luck with some rough and tumble but I wouldn’t drop it off a cliff or anything! All in all I was very satisfied.
Now, you ask why are you not still using it? I had to downgrade. I also have a Palm m125 that no longer synced through the cradle. I’ve since fixed that and no longer need my Palm m515 and GPS Companion. So I bought a SporTrak Map and will be selling my Palm m515, GPS Companion, Cradles, Cards, Mounts, and Cables shortly. (If you are interested email me… [email protected] ) Hope this info helps!

01/15/2004 at 6:36 pm #1746159i checked out that special; it’s $50 after both rebates, and there’s no way to get it for $20. Still, you get a gps unit with streetfinder software, so i ordered one. now i have to upgrade my palm.
