The areas that have no hunting after 2PM are usually spots where the DNR stocks pheasants.
By closing the hunting at 2PM, the DNR has time to release birds, and gives the birds time to dispurse, before being pursued by hunters. Otherwise you would have some people following the bird truck around and taking birds immediately after release.
The 2PM closing only applies to pheasant hunting on select properties. Hunting for other species on these properties is still allowed after 2pm.
Also, spring turkey permits run Wed-Sun. Birds get a break on Mondays and Tuesdays. This only applies to the hunting of turkeys in the spring. Mon/Tue closings don’t apply toward any other hunting seasons.
