I am beginning a new program offering with a couple of local recreation departments this summer on geocaching. It will be a class for beginners and my emphasis is families as a way for them to spend quality time outdoors together, plus to get the kids away from the TV, computer, and video games. It should be a blast as each week will be a hands-on class with the computer lab followed by traveling to some of the area’s caches.

I already have my plans made for the class and a PowerPoint presentation is in the works. It will be a 4 week class on Wednesday evenings at the Franklin Public Library, June 23-July 14. I am looking for assistance on a couple of items.

    1. I am looking for one or two fellow cachers who would like to serve as guest speakers to share their geocaching experiences with the class for one of the Wednesdays.

    2. I am looking for anyone who might have an extra GPS or two they can loan for the class to use, especially the first night of the class. I will cover different GPS systems, as well as an intro to caching (setting up accounts, different types of caches, etc.), so it would be great to get a variety of models. I’m not sure how much luck I’ll have with places like Gander Mountain, REI, etc. Any other suggestions on places to look would also be helpful.

Any help would be appreciated. If you can assist in any way, please e-mail me.

Assuming that they would be treated well, I have an eMap and GPS V that you could use one night.
