Quarterly Summary of Minutes: Board of Directors — May 1 2004
This is a summary of topics discussed by the WGA board since the last posting of minutes. Our intention is to continue to do this quarterly.
Campout Prep
This includes preparations for the hunting of caches as well as organizing the camping itself. For the first time, the WGA has asked its members to pay a fee for camping. The start-up problems were resolved and we all agree that next time will be easier. To be sure, this dominates the activity of the board at the moment. After the campout is complete, similar preparation will begin on the late summer WGA picnic.
Civics
Relationships with various government entities continue to develop although at a very slow pace. In the case of City of Madison and the DNR, we are waiting on responses from them. We’ve had other communities express interest or at least curiosity.Presentations
Ken Braband will be speaking at the 2004 WPRA (Wisconsin Parks and Recreation Association) state conference in Green Bay on Nov. 4.
Bill of FolkTrakers has agreed to make a presentation at Kosciuszko Elementary School in Cudahy on May 28th.Cache Approval
Brian of ‘I Should’ve Bought him the Tie’ has started approving caches. We had a short discussion of the board’s role in cache approval. The WGA board position is that as long as a cache follows the accepted guidelines specified by geocaching.com and the WGA, there are no other considerations to be made for the approval of the cache.Cache Rescue
A formal system for cache rescue was proposed. People would sign up to be available to move, maintain or retrieve caches that have been abandoned or otherwise run into trouble.Instead of a formal system, it was decided to rely on volunteers as needed, using the WGA site as the means of posting a request.
Splitting of Announcements
The Announcements area of the WGA site will be split into pure announcements and a new ‘Milestones’ forum. The name and mechanics will are yet to be resolved.05/04/2004 at 10:01 pm #1746730Ken, I will be in attendance at the 2004 Wisconsin Parks and Recreation Association state conference in Green Bay, if you need any assistance.

Seriously, if I think of something as the event draws nearer I’ll let you know. -
