      I know we have all found caches with historical significance but has it caused anyone to seek out literature on the events surrounding the cache?

      I found a cache in Massachusetts recently where you went to Redemption Rock to find the cache. The history of one Mary Rowlandson and Metacoms War was the theme of the cache. Turns out it was one of the most destructive wars in history and I had never heard of it.
      I ended up ordering the book from 1682 which gives the accounts of the war by Mary Rowlandson.
      How about it? Anyone else dig deeper after finding a cache?

        I don’t know if they could be considered historicals, but there are a couple of caches that I later went out of my way to research.
        “I love the smell of hydraulic fluid in the Morning”, is on the site of the old Chanute Air Force Base in IL. I always enjoy midwest military history.

        Another interesting one was JThorson’s now archived “The Bray Road Beast.” Some strange accounts to be found about that one also.

        The one I spent the most time on was in the making of one of my own caches, “Bowen Country Club”. Lots of interesting history to be found by researching Jane Adams and Hull House.

          This past weekend we did an interesting virtual that involved local history.. Miata’s Fighting City Hall. It is also a good example of the older type virtuals that required some action/thought, the type missed now!!

          The Snail

            The virtual “Battle for Buna” in Helenville is the final resting place of a Medal of Honor recipient. I spent some quality time on the web researching the battle and the soldier who earned the medal. A true hero.
