I am interested as to how often everyone caches. I know for us it’s 99.9% weekends-only activity. Are there any others out there that only go on weekends? How about those lucky ones who can go anytime?
I guess I’m curious as to the frequency of caching as I’m just in awe at the number of caches found by many members. It’s a really neat thing to see.
Kat from AstroD-Team06/10/2004 at 10:07 pm #1747019Being a park ranger I usually can NOT go on weekends. That is when they need us to patrol the most.
However I usually go on Mon & Tue which is not too bad as there is less crowd, more quiet, and a better chance to spot animals in the wild.
Unfortunately the animal I’ve seen the most lately is the dreaded mosquito!
They are out in unbelievably heavy swarms! The other night at Menomonee I was about to evict some illegal swimmers but the little blood suckers did it for me! You should have seen how fast the couple ran back to their car!06/10/2004 at 10:44 pm #1747020We are mostly weekend only.We also dont cache much in the summer because of the heat and the bugs.
06/10/2004 at 11:34 pm #1747021I work a regular 40 hour week (+2 hours a day driving back & forth) so most of my caching is on the weekends.
When there were caches closer to home, I would hunt them during the weeknights, but now it’s gotten too far to drive to claim just one ordinary find.
It’s always nice to have one pop up close enough to run out for after work.Sick days are for caching, aren’t they?

06/11/2004 at 1:46 am #1747022You’ve heard of “casual drinkers”? Well, we’re “casual cachers”.
Usually only the weekends. The only summer caching we’ve done is during a dry spell in cooler temps. We are primarily autumn/winter cachers. (Which means that it will probably be October before we hit that magical #100.)
As far as a typical caching weekend goes, if we’re travelling somewhere we might hit three or four in the area. Sometimes Amy and I will pack a cooler and do maybe 10 on a Sunday in fall (usually a Packers “bye” week or a Monday night game…)
We’re pretty relaxed about the hobby… too much and I could see us getting burned out…
We try to balance the hobby out with a lot of other interests as well. Last year we went to the Wisconsin State Chili Cook-off and then did a couple caches on the way back. We do a lot of canoeing trips and sometimes hit a cache or two on the way. Just relaxed and kicked back about the whole thing… We love the hobby though!!!

06/11/2004 at 2:59 pm #1747023We’re mostly weekenders, along with holidays that might fall on Mondays, etc.
The only notable exceptions are when we’re on vacation for a week or so; or when we have a chance to be FTF on a cache that appears mid-week (did that once).
I’d love to get out more, but Mrs. OuttaHand doesn’t usually get home much before 6pm or later and we’re both too beat to go out and thrash through a woods by that point.
06/11/2004 at 5:21 pm #1747024I just got a call from Bob of Cashing Out for some help on Mr. Elver’s Cache at 11 am. He must be the .1 %!!!

06/12/2004 at 4:23 am #1747025Whenever I have time. Weekends definitely… I’ll stay up late the night before printing and planning then, out the door the next morning. During the week is when I do the ones that have popped up nearby or the ones I’ve been saving, or Virts (to get them off my Nearest cache list) or lately I’ve been spending all my time hiding more than hunting so whenever I can get my butt near a cache I’ll try to log it.
I’m a whenever I can cache cacher, I guess

Co-conspirators to make the world a better place…06/13/2004 at 12:45 am #1747026We tend to go out 2-3 times a week on average. We go out as a team 1 or 2 times a week. We take our time and find 5 or 6 caches and end up the day at McDonalds as a treat.
About once a week I hit the trail alone for the harder and longer caches. I tend to stay out as long as the sun is up and the bugs are not too bad.
We tend to cache much less in the summer compared to the other seasons. I’ll take -20 degrees to swarms of bugs any day.06/13/2004 at 1:22 am #1747027quote:

Guilty as charged.
06/14/2004 at 1:33 am #1747028As caches get farther and farther away due to finding all the ‘close ones’, I find myself picking one day a week when I can travel to an area which has many caches (at least about 4 or 5). It varies..sometimes it’s a weekend day or otherwise, a day when I’m off work during the week while my son is at work. I work one out of every three weekends (in a hospital) so weekdays tend to be more open..especially during the summer, when I’m also tied up with golf or biking during weekends.
06/16/2004 at 1:36 am #1747029I’m a bum. Caching can be 4-14 days a month, depending on whatever else is going on, the weather, new caches, desire to travel, etc.
