As you may have noticed, the WGA Article of the Month does not actually change each month. That’s where you come in. Why not step up to the plate and offer to write an article for the website? You choose the topic and send your ideas to [email protected] and we’ll give you the go-ahead. If you’re looking for a way to get more involved and give something back to geocaching, this could be it. How about it?

06/12/2004 at 3:33 am #1747436How about an article on travel bugs and which was your most memorable or most interesting you have come across? I can probably write one during July or August now that I’m off from school.
Another idea for an article is to interview cachers who are also teachers, and see if any of them include geocaching and/or teaching kids how to use a GPS in their classroom. I’m one educator who does, but I’ve met/seen logs from other cachers in the state who are also teachers and wonder if they do the same.

Ken – are you guys looking for a general “article” or an opinion-based piece like an editorial?
06/12/2004 at 3:26 pm #1747438I haven’t asked the other board members about your question, but my feeling is we want “general” articles that educate about geocaching or issues related to geocaching. Editorials that present a personal opinion are more appropriately published in the forums. For example, if you want to write some half-baked opinion about what is or is not a verb, that would be a personal opinion you should post in the forums. If you want to write a non-controversial, informative article about GPSRs, a fellow geocacher, hunting tips, unusual containers, historic geocaches, unusual experiences you and other geocachers have had, issues with land managers, a “how-to” article such as how to hide a micro or how to hold an event cache… (and the list goes on) — these would all make fine topics for an Article of the Month.
06/12/2004 at 4:30 pm #1747439Sounds good… Since I grew up in the suburbs surrounding Chicago, a brief history of the area as well as a description of the forest preserves and geocaching opportunities in the area might be appropriate?

06/27/2004 at 6:19 pm #1747443I really enjoy reading about fellow cachers (ala the interview type article that appeared here recently.) I like learning about how people began the hobby, and how they approach it. I like to hear about their favorite caches, and which ones were the most challenging. I guess I’m just nosey….
Maybe when people reach a certain milestone (200 or 300 finds or so) they could be automatically sent a questionnaire. The option to complete it would be theirs, of course. A sort of “cacher of the month” if you will.
Of course, there may be the time when numerous people reach whatever level is set (perhaps then 500 finds would be a better milestone.)
Just my 2 cents.
I really enjoy writing, by the way and would be willing to help out in any way….

The only reason we want to know the topic ahead of time is to confirm it’s something we will publish before someone makes the effort to write it. Thanks for the offer!

I think your topic would be fine as long as you get quotes/opinions from a few other cachers around the state to give it a wider perspective and interest level for our readers. Thanks!
