I have been back at it with my dealings with the Madison Parks Department. Things have been positive to start again. I recently sent them an email inquiring about the status of their proposal-I still haven’t heard anything about the status of that yet…
In the other part of my email I asked if they had any service projects that we could be a part of. I really think it would be great to get involved in local communities as much as possible and give back! I did get an email from a different deparment member that I haven’t worked with before. We have talked on the phone and she is very interested in working with the WGA. She has a large project going on in October collecting prairie plant seeds. She said that if I have a group of about 10 volunteers that we could join them on October 9th. If we could get a larger group (no more than 30 due to the amount of equipment that they have) then they would set up a special event with just us on a different Saturday(October 16th).
What is so exciting to me about this is that they are doing the seed collection at an extremely beautiful CONSERVATION Park (Owen Park)…that is right…geocaching in a conservation park for the day…hehehe…Owen Park has one of the very best surprise views of the state’s capitol…beautiful prairie and paths…and very few people have seen it. It is a secret treasure…and we could be a part of it for the day!!!
I just need to know if there is an interest…if enough are interested I will post an event page…please let me know here if you are willing to donate three hours of your time to the environment…this would be excellent PR for WGA…it will certainly be a step in the right direction with our dealings with the City of Madison….
I hope you will consider giving a bit of your time…

09/24/2004 at 11:59 pm #1747823I don’t know how this would affect my karma balance sheet, driving 60 miles in an SUV to do something environmentally positive, but I need practice finding micros — count me in.
09/25/2004 at 12:04 am #1747824Sounds like a great project and a good way to give a little back to our communities.
If it’s early enough in the day I could help for a short time. I need to be at work at 2:30 PM.
09/25/2004 at 12:51 am #1747825Sounds like fun.
I have been known to collect a few prairie seeds while geocaching anyway.
This year White Indigo appeared in my prairie garden from seeds collected in Illinois last fall.
Yes I would be interested.09/25/2004 at 1:34 am #1747826Depends on the day, and the Badger football schedule, but if at all possible we will join the effort!
09/25/2004 at 1:11 pm #1747827FYI…I should have included this in the previous post. They run their seed collections from 9am-Noon…
09/25/2004 at 2:59 pm #1747828We would if we could but alas we can’t on those weekends. However, I hope lots of us can. Nice going, Rhonda and Tony!
09/25/2004 at 3:56 pm #1747829I’d LOVE to help! Count me in! And I might have to drag Little Fishcacher along too, heh heh. Papa Fishcacher will be sleeping off a night of working.

And by the way, thanks for working so much with the Madison Parks! I know I appreciate your work a ton!
09/26/2004 at 4:34 pm #1747831We can’t be there on the 9th (icky convention I have to attend), but if an event is held on the 16th, I can be there and probably LightningBugs Boy as well. Maybe I can find a way to work it into his cub scout achievements….
09/27/2004 at 2:45 pm #1747832Count me in Rhonda! BoyBug and GirlBug said they’d help too if you’ll let them…nothing like teenagers working! LOL! Uhmmm….I see a few Team Badger names missing from this list..

09/28/2004 at 7:50 pm #1747833I have confirmed the date (10/16)and time (9-noon) with the Madison Parks Department and will be making it an official geocaching event as soon as I can get over to Owen Park to get the coords for the cache page. Thanks to all that have volunteered so far…and I am sure that once the cache page gets up that more people will be interested. It will be open to only the first 35 people that sign up though due to the amount of supplied the city has. Keep your eyes out for the event posting…hopfully it will get sent in for approval in a few days!
Thanks for giving back!!!

09/29/2004 at 12:56 pm #1747834We should have recovered from the Great Sub Chase by the 16th, and I can’t see anything on our calendar. I am sure Trudy will want to get out of the house. Add two to your count.

Oh Oh! Alas, I am torn. We have previously committed to the paddle event and cannot participate in the Madison event.
