When I was a partner in a small business our lawyer told us several things not to do in order to prevent lawsuits. Among them:
-Don’t sponsor a softball team.
-Don’t be in a room alone with small children.
It is a question of where the money is. Guilt or responsibility has nothing to do with it.
Legal action is probably the largest tax in the US, not for the awarded amounts but for what activities, inventions, and endeavors the potential lawsuit prevents.
