    This fits into my “MQOTD” category, mainly because I might be the only person out there that would want this.

    ==================================

    Is there a simple and low cost (or free) method to load images of street maps into a PalmPilot?

    Yes, my GPSr has maps on it. But in my paper-version of geocaching, sometimes I like to print out a map from my MapSource software to get the “lay of the land” and see what streets get me where (in a more “stepped back” view than is practical on my GPSr).

    If I’m going to go completly paperless, I’d need to some how quench my desire to have a specific area map on the Palm.

    Keep in mind that I tend to plan out a specific area I’m going, so I don’t need to worry about tons of maps to “cover all possible adventures”, just my pre-planned area.

    Try this:

    with the map on your PC Screen, press ALT+Print Scrn then load a new word Doc and press Ctrl+V. Now download the word Doc to your PDA.

    I think that will work

    I will try what you said, T&B … I cut/paste images all the time to Word and other places … just didn’t think you could go directly from Word doc to Palm … but then again I’ve only had the thing 1.5 days now.

    If you are looking to load a small specific area, Mapquest has an “upload to PDA” button that utilizes AvantGo.

    Otherwise do a search for Freeware Palm Software and There are a couple that will let you upload maps.

    it has been my experience that the mapquest feature through avantgo is very frustrating. i’m trying to come up with a free solution for my pocket pc as well.

    Contact Genius Loci via the Groundspeak site. I know for a fact that he has maps on his palm. I’ve seen them many times while caching w/ him. They have rivers and lakes on them…some even have trails marked.
    (Tell him I told you to email him…he’ll think it’s funny because I always pick on him about having them on his palm.)

    I’ve emailed “Genius Loci” as suggest by MB.
    Thanks for the tip … I’d like to hear from someone that is doing exactly what I want to, which sounds like the case.

    I’ve searched we web for various products that are out there … no time right now to try them, but I will do so. I also suspect I need to pick up a memory card too, since I doubt that I can do much map loading with the base 16mb of the Zire 31.

    oh, yes! a memory card would be helpful. my wonderful husband bought me a 1GB memory card for my pocket pc for christmas. i can put about three movies on there. this way when i have stopped searching for a cache because it is obviously NOT there, but geo still HAS to find it, i can kick back and watch a movie while he frantically searches (and uses words that i have to look up on the dictionary loaded on the pocket pc).
