If you set your GPSr down while caching and can’t find it, and then you find it, did you really loose it??

No, you’ve simply misplaced it. I suppose that’s one way to make a cache hunt last longer, but you can’t really log that second find, and you’re burning daylight by hanging around one are that long so…don’t misplace it.

Depends on how long it takes to re-find it. If you quickly find it, it was misplaced. If it takes more than an hour, it was lost LOL
that’s why we have two gps units…..so when one gets lost, we can find it with the other.
This reminds me of a funny thing that happened to me and the wife this past winter … Geri wanted a geocaching date (I just got to love my wife, for humoring me and getting my time at all costs) … so we left the kids at home and did our first winter night caching … it was some cache just a few miles north-west of Newburg, WI … can’t remember where at the moment.
Anyway it was a horrible thing to find at night … a nice smooth walking trailing that sort of goes around in a giant circle, with the cache pretty much in thick brush in the middle of the circle … we walked around the circle twice, never getting less than 400 feet away and NEVER finding a non-eye-poking way in. We decided we found the spot that looked the least likely to end us up in the hosptial with the kids home alone … and we headed in. We got to the cache … we heard some dogs barking not too far away … so I got out my pepper spray, not that I would have been able to even see the dogs coming in the dark. Well we logged the find and THEN we found the logical deer trail from the cache back to the path (I suspect the only possible way to get in easily). Then after we walked about 1/4 mile back to the car, I noticed I didn’t have my new winter gloves … so back we went … but NOW, I could not find that stupid deer trail that we had just taken out. But at least we knew the coordinates of my gloves.
