05/11/2005 at 3:21 am #1721628Why do the state and county insist on using yearly park stickers that are next to impossible to remove? I finally got around to removing our 2004 stickers recently. I had to buy a long-handled razor blade holder because our windshield is so tilted it’s hard to get down there. Now that the dumb things are off, I still have to remove the residue – citrus cleaner works pretty well, but what a pain! I don’t understand why they can’t issue a card with your name on it just like they do for museum and zoo memberships. If they will lose revenue from stickers for 2nd cars, they could raise the price a buck and make up the difference. I’m sure they have other reasons too, but it just seems like they’ve been doing it this way for as long as I can remember and there’s got to be a better way by now. If I were to bend the rules a bit, I’d get Palm or Pocket PC clear screen protecters from Circuit City and mount the sticker on that and the protector on the windshield. Of course, that would make the sticker transferable, violating the law I’m sure. Actually, the Palm screen protectors are slightly too small, so the sticker is still attached by its own adhesive, so I don’t think it would be very transferrable, but I think it would make it much easier to get off next year. OK, I’m done, I feel better. Doug 05/11/2005 at 3:52 am #1749323LOL. I’m with ya! I worked at a hospital many years ago and had to have a parking sticker for my vehicle. I STILL have residue on my window FOUR YEARS LATER, lol. At least the hospital sticker is on one of the rear door windows. That way I don’t have to look at the residue all the time. And it’s not like you can just keep adding stickers to your front windshield and make a collection…. Being able to see thru the windshield is an awfully helpful thing! I have too many *membership* cards in my wallet already. I’d scream if I had to add another card, lol. Personally, I’d like to have the ability to be able to put the sticker on a side window or bumper. ~MF 05/11/2005 at 6:25 am #1749324I just went through this removal process too! I also used one of those razor blade gizmos. The blade kept slipping out and I almost sliced my digits up! I have learned to not put the sticker so low in the corner. That definitely makes it harder to get the required leverage to scrap the little bugger off.
I used plain rubbing alcohol to remove the remaining adhesive. That disolved it pretty good.
I agree I would rather pay a family rate, instead of dealing with those stickers on two vehicles, and have a card or placard that would hang from the mirror or something. As a ranger I would prefer if those things went on the back window of the vehicle so they would be easier for me to check in a parking lot. But they are put up front so booth workers can see it when you pull in.
At the very least I wish there was a five year sticker or something so you didn’t have to scrape and rub yearly. I suppose that wouldn’t allow for fee increases though.05/11/2005 at 10:52 am #1749325i just stack ’em up along the side of my windshield…..redneck style 05/11/2005 at 12:46 pm #1749326quote:

If you sell your car, you can get a free replacement sticker from the DNR. You just need to write down the sticker number, and bring in the stickers pieces. You can then get a free replacement. For those hunters and fisher persons, the DNR “patron license” will allow entry to any state park. You just show them your license and they give you a free day pass to get in the park. As a passenger in the vehicle, you can still produce your Patron license and they will still give the driver a day pass for the vehicle. It’s sweet, but it will cost you $140.00 05/11/2005 at 3:10 pm #1749327I’ve found that Mineral Spirits (paint thinner) takes the adhesive off lickety split, but then you have to get the oily remains of the mineral spirits off. I’ve found that brake cleaner or laquer thinner works good for getting the mineral spirits off. I then take Windex to the whole windshield (it usually needs to be cleaned anyway). The whole process takes me about 2 minutes, including the scraping. 05/11/2005 at 3:18 pm #1749328quote:

I love when you see regular stickers on the backseat windows. Little Johnny is a Little “@#@$%&!” 05/11/2005 at 5:34 pm #1749330Maybe, just maybe …. if you took a piece of clear contact paper (cheaper than those darn Palm screens) and cut it SMALLER than the sticker and stick it to the sticky sticker … so that you have about 1/4″ of actual sticker stickyness all around the edge with the clear paper stuck to the center of the sticker … and then stuck the sticker on the windshield … then when you go to take it off you only have a little border of sticker sticky that your stuck with. 05/11/2005 at 6:18 pm #1749331FYI * Half-price annual stickers are available for additional vehicles registered to the same household address. (per WI-DNR website) 05/11/2005 at 7:14 pm #1749332quote:

(per WI-DNR website)I was counting on that, but when we took the unstickered car to Rib Mountain, the gate was unmanned. There is no mention on the form of a discount for the second car so we still paid the full amount. So, the trick seems to be to make sure you buy your sticker at a manned park – which is tough to do in the middle of the winter. 05/12/2005 at 12:06 pm #1749333I used an orange oil based cleaner first, then windex to clean it the rest of the way. It also smelled good after i was done. In theory wd40 will work too, but then i get oil on my dash and it doesn’t smell as nice.

Yes, all in one piece. Just go about it slowly and carefully.
