Could someone please let us know what other “games” are out there to play with our GPS? We are running out of caches and locationless caches in our area. We can’t go very far from home because the 16 year old has to work, and be fed, and all that other parenting stuff that gets in the way of geocaching.
Please provides links or whate ever we need to know.
thanks,

05/17/2005 at 9:58 pm #1749466think of some impossibly hard cache to hide.
05/18/2005 at 2:14 am #1749467PMG looks like a lot of fun but is 188.1 miles from our house as the goose flies.
Timberline Echoes05/18/2005 at 2:28 am #1749468I suppose I could get on the ball and try to get the 3-part multi listed. Then again, I’m remodeling and haven’t had time to go caching w/the boys…
05/18/2005 at 2:29 am #1749469you could hide something like PMG….Last time i checked, she has quite a few great-grand-gosslings out there. It generated a bunch of new caches.

Timberline EchoesThe idea behind PMG is what I was pointing to. One cacher [rpaske] placed a cache that spawned several others in the area that he could then seek. Your game plan would be to do something similar in your neighborhood to provide yourself with new chalenges. There is no need to drive 188 miles to visit the cache. You can meet rpaske at the campout this weekend. Ask him all about it.
05/18/2005 at 11:15 am #1749472You could:
1.) Find benchmarks
2.) Get e-mail notifications of new cache locations in your area.
3.(My favorite): Just download caches to your GPS as waypoints only and don’t read the cache description page. Then go try to find them and figure out what you’re supposed to do. (This is great on the multis.) I’ve found it’s a lot of fun since every cache is a surprise, although it significantly decreases your find rate. Finding parking can be a bit of frustration without notes, and avoiding swamps could be a challenge.
When I finally found the first clue to Find Jimmy Hoffa! (GCKRWT) it was a blast. I took pictures of the second location because I couldn’t find the cache, and was glad when I got home because you needed the writing to decode the third location. Unfortunately it changed to a Premium Member-Only cache in the middle and I haven’t yet plunked down $30, so that was disappointing. When we’re done remodeling we’ll have more time and more pesos, so we’ll be able to continue at that point.

05/18/2005 at 11:31 am #1749473Here’s one:
Stand in an open field with plenty of room, like the fifty yard line of a football field.
Turn on your GPSr.
Create a waypoint where you are.
Set your GPSr to ‘goto’ that waypoint.
Move to be always at ground zero.
Continue chasing ground zero until you get bored or have a heart attack.Enjoy.
Note that this was not my creation but one of the games proposed at the same time as geocaching after the elimination of SA in May 2000.

05/18/2005 at 12:42 pm #1749474or, you could go to an field, turn on the gps-r as well as tracking. Try to spell your name or make an outline, similar to etch-a-sketch, as you walk around. Best to do this while no one else is watching, though. See this link.
05/18/2005 at 3:57 pm #1749475I got another game you can play … but involves additonal investment … you need a 50 cent roll of pennies …. you drop a penny on your lawn, mark the coordinates, go about 20 paces, repeat, repeat, repeat …. then send your kids out to find the pennies. Oh yes, and YOU will need a lawn chair and a glass of ice tea. If you have a whole pitcher of ice tea … then don’t bother giving the kids the GPSr.

oh, great. i KNOW i’m going to have to try this. geo already acts as if he doesn’t know me on occasion. this will send him over the edge.
05/18/2005 at 8:52 pm #1749477Try GPSgames.org. You can get others to join you in Geopoker. Temporary hides….no cache maintainance. Play hide and find until you get a winning hand then….start another game. The more people you get to play…the more fun.
