Have a question and maybe you all can help if I’m doing something goofy. We have a site on Geocache.com called “National Landmark”. The Wisconsin Geocache page has the “Recent Logs” page. None of the logs that are on our page on Geocache.com show up on the “Recent Logs” page. I’ve sent an e-mail to the WI. prez. but haven’t gottan a reply. Can anyone “splain dis to me Lucy?”
Fawnwood of Stump Jumpers05/19/2005 at 7:38 pm #1749496I assume you mean geocaching.com NOT geocache.com … but any way … I assume your not getting your email answered and/or get much response on this message board, because most (if not all) of the headcheeses and others are on their way to the Annual WGA picnic event that is happening this weekend … just guessing, but there is below averaging messaging going on today.
Not sure why your cache is not showing up on Recent Logs, either. It’s an automated system, so it’s not a purposeful thing. Maybe the automated system is not working correctly at all times.
You may need to wait to find out.
05/19/2005 at 11:05 pm #1749497I know what you’re talking about. Sometimes when I post I find that only part of my list makes it to the WGA recent logs, or that they are scattered along the page. Some peoples’ are in neat blocks… Perhaps it has to do with site traffic when we post.
As long as I get credit I don’t much care, but it is nice to see how all my new friends are doing.05/20/2005 at 3:05 am #1749498Hello, I responded to your email the same day (5/16), not sure why you didn’t receive it.
Basically, we have a program that harvests data from the GC.com website (with their permission). We display the last 200 logs. Every 15 mins the program will download the latest data.
It’s possible that during heavy traffic periods, a log may disappear off the page before it even appears. In otherwords, If there were more then 200 logs in the last 15 mins, some get missed.
It will also take around 15 mins before the data would appear on the recent logs page.
If for some reason they are still not appearing our page, we’ll have to have our webmasters check into the problem.

Yes, thank you I finally got your e-mail, not your fault. I tracked it down on the server. I just find it strange that from April 18th till today, in 30 days, the timing (one explanation on them not showing up)has been off on 14 logs being entered to our page. There have been many other logs entered to pages that have not been skipped within that same time period right down to the same day. Somethings screwy.05/20/2005 at 2:16 pm #1749500It’s also possible that the problem is in the cache page rendering on geocaching.com. Do logs for the cache show up on the Wisconsin stats website?
http://www.igotsomestuff.com/logs.shtml05/20/2005 at 2:59 pm #1749501Not that I really know what I’m talking about (don’t say it!) … but I’m thinking that Grousetales is likely right about geocaching.com having problems … as I watch “finds” to my geocaches very closely … I’m aware of times when someone logs a find on one of my caches, but I don’t get the automated email of the find … sometimes the automated email suddendly shows up a day or two later, after I’ve already noticed the logged find directly on the cache listings. Logically, if there is a delay in the automated email, maybe the same “resources” are being used to “tickle” the WGA harvest … so the the “tickle” comes too late to make the most recent 200.
05/20/2005 at 3:07 pm #1749502Well gang, I’ve looked at Igotsomestuff statistic page also, and it’s not showing up there either. Sooooo I’ve have sent e-mail to the official site again explaining there are now two pages not getting the info in the download. This leads me also to believe that the problem is at the official site. I’ve also noticed our team does not show up on the “full statistics” page on the Igotsomestuff page. We have found three in one day so we should meet the criteria, but where the listing of at least four caches found are listed, we don’t show.
I’ll keep you posted on the on going saga.

05/20/2005 at 8:39 pm #1749503Ok folks, here’s Geocaching.com answer to my quandry. As you can see this has taken a vicious circuitous route. Everyone isn’t the problem and yet no one is also the cure.
Hello Fawnwood,
I don’t see anything different about your logs that would prevent this
website’s service from grabbing them. Since I don’t really know how they
are getting their information I’m afraid I can’t help you this time either
. Perhaps it is an opt-in service? Maybe you need to contact them to
sign up before they start gathering your cache find stats.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.05/20/2005 at 8:48 pm #1749504Bad news … it’s not working for you.
Good news … you got GC to actually answer a question and quickly … I didn’t think they’d bother to address something like this, as it’s not really a concern about their site doing what it technically suppose to be doing.
05/21/2005 at 2:24 am #1749505For what it’s worth, http://www.igotsomestuff.com/logs.shtml House of Brew’s site has not been updating for several days. This happens every now and then, but it’s nothing to worry about.
The WI-Geocaching.com logs page is usually hit and miss. I’m sure that your cache finds are up to date…..and that’s what counts.

05/21/2005 at 4:45 am #1749506If it makes you feel better, I don’t show up on the overall listings on the House of Brew Page either.
In my case, I know why- Only cachers with a .06 finds per day average show up. Since I registered in Feb of 2001, and then was inactive for 4 years I dont even come close. I need to find about 50 more caches before I will make the page.
I don’t know how long you have been registered or how many finds you have, maybe that is what is going on with you, too?
geocaching’s oldest newbie!05/21/2005 at 10:34 am #1749507You have been around longer than me Docapi. I signed up in September of 2001. How time flys!
05/21/2005 at 10:50 am #1749508Well, lo and behold all you Cache Junkies!
A log entry for our cache showed up on “Recent Logs” !!!! It only took four days from the entry date, but it found it’s way back to Wisconsin. Hurray!!! Thanks to Coffee Hounds for making the entry. We will continue to struggle along and patiently await additives as time goes along. Thank you all for your input and advice.
Keep stomping the bushes and jumping those stumps.
Fawnwood of The Stump Jumpers05/21/2005 at 4:09 pm #1749509Glad you finally show up. Just a suggestion … I would not worry about it or watch it much … I think it’s just there for curiousity sake … it’s not like people use it for any incredibly amazing purpose, like deciding what cache to go to next. Unless I’m wrong … if someone else uses it for more than “geo eye candy” on this site, let me know … so that I can change my ways, too.
