I’m looking for a pda,used or new but on the cheaper side.Any ideas??
How is the Zire 31E-Bay E-Bay E-Bay
My experience is with Palm & Handspring models. Easy to find for less than $100 and my Handspring Visor Deluxe will hold the cache page for every cache in Wisconsin.
Just make sure you get the cradle and software with it for connecting to your PC.

I agree about eBay. I bought a Palm IIIxe in it’s original box with the manual, software, cradle, and a body glove case for $35 including shipping. I have 250 caches plus games loaded into it and I’ve barely scratched the surface of the memory usage. Granted, it’s not a pretty looking PDA, and it’s not color, but it does exactly what I want it to do!

Thanks for the tip. I got in at the last 2 minutes of a bidding and got this – Palm IIIxe HOT SYNC DOCK INCLUDED! for $16.50 plus $10 for s&h. Not too bad a deal I don’t think! Just gotta see what all I need with it now LOL
Bunnyfufu… look into Cachemate for your PDA. You’ll love it. You can load all your caches if you are a premium member. Got to get that done 1st! Then make a PQ from geocaching.com
Cachemate you can look at your caches, look and uncode the cheats, check out travel bugs and also type in a log so you know which caches you have done for the day. Really makes cache day organizing easy!

“Be safe and Keep on Searchin”They’re so cheap now that when I asked for a donation of one for a project at work, four popped up on my desk within two days. I think most people are using pocket pc’s now, but I still get a huge amount of use out of my Sony PEG-360. The only reason I’d get a pocket pc is for a job application and it’d need a serial adapter.

I use Cachemate in my PDA also. I love it!! I haven’t done GSAK yet though.
If you need any of those static screen protector thingys, there’s store in Sun Prairie that has them right now. 99¢ for a package of 10. The store is “Liquidators Outlet” on Main St.

I got one last month.I’m using Plucker on it and always have the closest 200 non-found geocaches in my pocket. (To use Plucker, you first need to use Spinner on your desktop, see the article at http://www.geocacher-u.com/resources/paperless.html )
I also have tried a Free program called Earth Comber, to have street maps with me (check it out at http://earthcomber.com ). However, I recently purchase Street Atlas USA to replace it ( http://www.delorme.com ). But the free stuff is almost as good, the main advantage of Street Atlas is not needing to deal with the Internet to download maps, plus just slightly better map quality.

Sunlight seems to be the only thing that’s just no fun with Palms, at least mine.
The Zire 31 (and I assume most other units) have very generous adjustment range to the contrast and back light … I can take mine from full black to full white and any where in between. But it doesn’t really address the glare effect of the sun. Same problem with my NEW COLOR cell phone … seems to be something that comes with the package for a color screen.
The only thing that seems to work is (1) step into the shade, or (2) get my back between the sun and the unit … which is tougher to do at high noon.
My only question to you … where have you seen much sun lately?
I kinda figured, as many are complaining that the color screens on the newer GPRr’s are worthless in the sun.
The sun always shines on me. Beautiful weather for caching….. 2 more finals to go (&*%@$)
I’ve had the same problem with sunlight vs my Zire-31 screen too. Ducking into the shade does help a little bit, but not much. I usually review a few things while in my car before I take off for caches.

My Handspring visor platinum is barely readable in the sunlight. So, I downloaded a few fonts, then simply increased the font size! Now it’s good to go! BTW, yes, it does run on two AAA batteries.
My fiancée has a Palm i705 in *mint* condition, with padded leather case, screen protectors, etc., which works great in the sun. It hooks into the computer via a cradle and also does wireless networking to a home network via some upgrades that I never fully investigated. It seems to last forever on one charge. She used it for a while but changed departments at work and now sticks to paper. If you’re interested I can ask her what she’d like for it. (I have a Toshiba e755, but that’s not “on the cheaper side.”) I’m not a Palm brand user and don’t know how it interfaces with geocaching software.
