in the mail tonite i received a flyer for aldi’s (yes i typed aldi’s), which had advertised the garmin yellow etrex for $80. what a steal. rei has it for something like $100. this is a great tool for someone who wants to get a good gps unit for not too much money. the price is good from sept 7th – sept 11th.
09/04/2004 at 11:04 am #1750954Before you buy, Get a copy of that ad and take it to Gander Mountain. They once had a low price gurantee that allowed for double the difference off their price. Their price for the etrex is $105. 105-80=25, 25×2=50, 105-50=55 Your price, if this program is still in effect, would be $55 plus the copy of the Aldi ad. Ask for details on their low price guarantee program before you show them the ad.

09/06/2004 at 1:21 am #1750956Any news if Gander Mountain is honoring it? I have a few more newbies on a budget that it would be a great deal to pass along to.

09/07/2004 at 4:51 pm #1750959I’d still try taking the ad in. What do you have to loose. Its worth a try! Cant go wrong.
“Be safe and Keep on Searchin”09/08/2004 at 12:55 am #1750960I jumped all over this one! Being a new cacher and needing a GPS desperatly….Energysaver forwarded this thread to me and like I said…I was all over it. I first found the nearest Aldi and Gander Mt. to me, turned out both were in Sheboygan within minutes of each other. I hopped in the car at 6pm, stopped at Aldi for a flyer for proof of the price, then ZOOOMED over to Gander Mt. where I caught them just MOMENTS before changing the sign on the Garmin Etrex to match Aldi. Since they hadn’t changed the sign YET, I was able to get DOUBLE the difference off the price of the unit. That came to an even $40.00! So the total cost of the unit for me came to a measly $62.99! On a minor note, being in Sheboygan county I only had to pay 5% sales tax as opposed to our 5.6%! So YES it is TRUE just call your local Gander Mt. to see if they have already changed the price BEFORE you get there!

“A bad day of hunting is better than a good day at work” Dan09/08/2004 at 1:14 am #1750962Thats funny you should say that. When I got there a young kid was actually running around with the Aldi sale info written on a scrap of paper…as if someone just tipped him off to the sale! When I came in and asked, there happened to be 3 workers behind the counter and they all looked at each other, slooowly looked at their piece of paper and then decided they HAD to give me thier sale price as they didn’t change the sign yet. Bummer for them! Good for us! Go US!
09/08/2004 at 3:31 am #1750963Our Scout troop has been looking at picking up some GPS’s. I found that Best Buy online had the price for the Garmin Etrex at $49.99, I took the add in to the Gander Mountain in Franklin and they priced matched 4 of them at $49.99 and then with it being the boyscouts it was tax exempt. So I paid$199.96 for 4 of them. Wow!

09/08/2004 at 3:39 am #1750964Hmmmm….something else to think about…I’ll bet that Gander Mountain is going to hate Geocachers before long. LOL! Hopefully they won’t change their policy before I can get the kids their GPSR’s…
09/08/2004 at 5:07 pm #1750965Kinda funny. We just got the Aldi ad for the etrex in the paper last night in the Lacrosse area. Might have to make a roadtrip to Gander Mtn. for a spare unit!
“Be safe and Keep on Searchin”09/08/2004 at 8:07 pm #1750966Yipee….I went to Gander Mountain in Rockford Ill., with the ad. I got 2 Etrex
GPSRs….. the price was 104.99. They took off 50.00 for each one. I ended up paying 117.96 including tax for both units. The manager asked me if I was a geocacher. I said yes why? He said “Just kinda figured that.” He had the ad in his hand and went in the back to get the units….I think also to copy the ad. He was smiling, but looked a little green around the gills. I’m happy that I got this deal. Thanks for the heads up. Lucy[This message has been edited by lucy92979 (edited 09-08-2004).]
