I am excited to see that a few people have dropped off bugs at the event…I just wanted to give a heads up that we will be designating a secured area for travel bugs that are at the event. This area will be voluntary. Some people don’t want to let their precious bugs out of their hands/want to know that their bugs are safe/ want to know who grabbed them, etc. I will be making a check in sheet for the bugs to know who dropped them off and who picked them up. I would like to see the bugs stay yhere until after lunch so that people get a chance to see them.

At past events people brought bugs and didn’t know what to do with them, or saw a bug on the page that they could help toward a goal but didn’t know where the bug was. I will be supervising the bugs so they will be safe…and the check in and out system will help the tracking of them. Again, this is a little thing…and completely voluntary…but it is a “service” that will be available for people to use.

I’m new at this picnic stuff … I assume I don’t have to Pre-Drop a bug in the picnic cache, if I don’t want to. I will have several bugs with me, that I might want to trade with specific people. But since I’m doing caching Friday in Portage, while staying the night, I don’t know for sure what bugs. I assume I can trade or drop a bug and log it after the picnic is over. Or am I wrong?

I would say don’t “pre-drop” the bug in the picnic cache. If you still have it Saturday, leave it at the picnic, then when you get home and log the event cache, drop it then so the bug history reflects that it was at the picnic. Then the person who picked it up can “grab” it from the picnic cache page.

The secured location is a great idea. I know some people don’t mind it, but I was disturbed at the last breakfast event where people were writing down TB tag numbers, but not taking the bugs, then when they got home, they grabbed the bugs from the event cache, then dropped them back in. They even grabbed them from the cachers who actually took the bugs with them. Hopefully this will cut back on that, as well as help to prevent bugs from going AWOL.

There have been bugs left behind at events. Leaving the cleanup crew to claim and pass on bugs that may or may not fit their agenda. I like the Idea of taking bugs to events and dropping them at the event after the fact if I find a cacher interested in moving the bug.

Yes, by all means bring a bug even if it is not posted on the page ahead of time! As long as you drop it on the page virtually after the event then the person could be patient before grabbing it. Hope to see a bunch of bugs there of the travelling kind, not the biting kind…hehehe

Post the note, drop bug, delete note, bug remains

Thanks! I don’t know why that was so difficult for me!

Thanks for having a secured area for the travel bugs. I am bringing a few to drop off.

I am also bringing Jeep #3385 to the picnic. In order to get the jeep, you will have to work for it, and the rest of us will have fun watching you. The first person to find me at lunch, show me that they are wearing something supporting my favorite football team (none other than the Green Bay Packers), AND perform their best Packer cheer will get the Jeep. First come, first serve.
