We only have one week to go until the campout. The planners are putting the finishing touches on the preperations.
I was at the park last month and scoped out the groups campsites. Both group campsites are very nice.
Site #1 is a large flat field surrounded by woods. You can camp on the grass, or in the woods along the edge. There is also a scenic overlook at the back side of the site. There is a deck where you can look over a marshy bay. This site has 6 fire rings and picnic tables around the perimeter of the site.
Site #2 has electricity!! There is a very large open sided shelter on site two. In fact, it’s about 3 times bigger then the shelter we have reserved for Saturday’s caching event. There are also 6 fire rings and picnic tables around the perimeter of site 2. Site 2 isn’t quite as flat, but there are plenty of nice spots to put up a tent. If you need electricty, this is the site for you. Maybe bring a long extension cord for that electric blanket

Both sites are next to each other, and seperated by about 75 yards of woods. The is plenty of parking at each site, and a pit toilet at each site.
Camper registration will be at the shelter at group site #2. The pancake breakfast will also be at this shelter.
*** Important info ***
As in years past, we will be sending out an email to all of those who have registered for the event. Look for this email in the coming days. We will post a message once it’s sent out. If you don’t receive the email, contact us and we’ll try again. For those camping at the group sites, your email will include which group campsite you will be assigned to. When you arrive at the park, all campers MUST register with the DNR at the entrance gate. Group campers will need to know their campsite number, reservation number, and the name of the person who reserved the site. The name of the person reserving the site will be either Me (Brian), or my wife (Becky).
On paper, we need to assign you a campsite so you can register at the park office. In reality, you don’t necessarily need to be on the site you were assigned. Yes, you will be able to camp next to your friends.
We will try to keep an even amount of people on each site. We paid for 35 people per site, per night. If we go over that, we need to pay more money to the park. Since we have about 70 people registered, this should work out fine. We will have plenty of room for all the group site campers. We are not too concerned about which site you end up on, but we will try to keep things organized.
Be sure to register at the shelter before you set up your camp

further instructions will be detailed in the important email we will be sending out.
Looks like we are going to have a super campout !

05/14/2005 at 4:02 pm #1758515I sent out email assignments last night to all those who signed up for group camp sites. If you didn’t receive your site assignment (either site #1 or #2), let me know.
05/14/2005 at 10:12 pm #1758516I’m interested in hearing the vehicle parking situation for both the group camps and the Saturday event.
05/14/2005 at 10:29 pm #1758517Parking will be more then adequate. There is also overflow parking nearby if needed.
As in past campouts, we may block off a few spots with cones for the organizers. We need to be able to get in and out with all our equipment and supplies.
If you would like to see a few photos of the shelter, site 1 and site 2, you can view my photo album.

Thanks for the photo album. I’m not sure the group toilet is private enough for me though.. )
