I know this will turn into a heated flame and I am sorry but seems some people want the cords early so what about getting the name of the temp cache and the clue to it so those that dont have a pda can decode so we dont have to spend so much time doing it at the cache site
08/08/2005 at 4:02 pm #1759010Real geocachers don’t use hints.
08/08/2005 at 5:34 pm #1759011You don’t have the decypher code memorized ??

If the decipher code is memorized, then why have the hints cyphered?

But if you have to…why not get a group of people together and split the list, then you can each share what you decyphered…I mean, if it can be done while caching…oops, nevermind
08/08/2005 at 5:47 pm #1759015To become a WGA board member I heard that you must take a 30 question test that’s completely encrypted to test your true knowledge.
08/08/2005 at 5:47 pm #1759016I have and idea…. I’ll see what the organizers think before posting it.

Sadly, yes. (My name is Becky & I’m a geek.)
I recall an event that had an extra “bonus” included in the hints. I think someone had to sing “I’m a little tea pot” and got…..something. In that case, getting the hints ahead of time would put some cachers at an advantage.
Of course, I didn’t decipher the hint.

08/09/2005 at 1:27 am #1759018Hints, smints! What’s the big deal decoding them?!?! Doesn’t everyone who has at least a few hundred finds know the code by heart? Just like learning another language.
08/09/2005 at 4:30 pm #1759019Your picnic staff has discussed this and we decided to publish non-coded hints on a separate page so you won’t have to look at it if you don’t want to.

Nope…just you Steph!
08/10/2005 at 4:01 pm #1759022thanks for the decoding
another Idea
this is to save time and money for the board or WGA
send an email with the info for each cache and the map and then each person can print it out at home rather than making some one do it and coming up with to many or not enough pages to pass out at the picnic.
I am not thincking of this so I can cheat and beat someone there it is to save the board from printing it only08/10/2005 at 6:14 pm #1759023quote:

I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe one of the reasons we register for the picnic in advance is to alleviate this as a problem. With everyone registering online, the commitee can see how many people will be attending and print accordingly. I’m sure they do a few extra just in case someone has a change of plans and registers there.
As for the cost of putting on the event, the WGA graciously accepts donations from anyone wishing to contribute. There is always a box to drop $$$ in at a WGA function. These funds help defer some of the expense.
Just think how great it would be if every PERSON (not team, not family) seeking the caches were to put a single dollar in the box…yippee!…yes people, this is a challenge. If we support our WGA on a financial level now, we may be able to keep it running on donations instead of a monthly/yearly fee like some other geo associations that I know. -
