If I remember correctly, something like 80 white jeeps have been released in Wisconsin. Page thru the caches for the states (81 pages) and there are only 4 caches that have white jeeps in them.

    So, where are the rest?

I did a random check of 100 yellow jeeps and 100 white jeeps and found that in 2004, 20 white jeeps never got into circulation and only 9 are listed in caches. The 2005 crop did a little better with 12 jeeps not getting into circulation and 14 listed in caches today.

Playing with the numbers, it looks like there are 100-200 jeeps in 186,000 caches. And, there are 800-900 jeeps in the pockets of 22,000 cachers in 216 countries.

Conclusion: your odds of finding a jeep are better if you are shaking-down a fellow cacher (4%) than if you are combing the woods (0.1%). You might also consider moving on to another country to search for them after you have found more than a dozen at home.

Your odds of finding an operating Ground Round Restaurant may be better than finding a jeep.

I got one at the GB event, before that there was one white jeep in a 100-mile radius from Manitowoc. I plan on taking some pictures and putting it in a cache after that to give others the chance to get it. I think some cachers are hanging on to them and logging them in and out of caches or taking them out of the area to another state. Someone I know was in Michigan (UP) at an event and they told him if you take a jeep from the event (he won one as a door prize), NOT to take it out of state.

The one I had to place in a cache wound up being taken by Illinoisians (is that a word?) – – so that’s one gone…

Yep these are for sure elusive. My feeling is when they made them larger (read more collectable) and had multiple month contest entries they doomed these to be held by the greedy amoung us.

    [hanging head in shame]

    I have one

Picked it up a month or two ago and just haven’t been out caching much. Been working on tile floor in my house.

I hope to get out in the next couple of weeks and get it back into circulation.

    sorry

Remodeling, wedding plans, and placing caches have consumed too much of our time to hunt caches, or even log the ones we’ve found. That will change.

OK — my conscience is now clear. Mrs.OuttaHand and I finally got caching again yesterday. We’ve dropped off a white jeep in “Its’ All In The View”

Oh — and if you do that, please read our log. Learn from my mistake

edit: added the link (I think)

That’s a great log! Thanks for taking the time to write it. Thanks also to the GeoZingers too for the Zinger On A King picture!
