This is what I am thinking of doing. I would like to have an event in Kewaskum some time next year. Thinking around the end of May or April or maybe June. I am looking for suggestions for the date and any ideas you might have. I would like to have at least 10 temp caches or possible 10 new ones. It would depend on how many people come but I was thinking of having like 5 people or 5 groups place 5 caches. I would pick out an area for them and they would go there and place a cache around that area. If everyone makes it all day I was thinking letting those who choose to be the first to go look for a new night cache I have in the planning. Ok now for you ideas on this. Thanks Russ
12/17/2005 at 7:22 pm #1760271If you have an event … they will come.
Kewaskum is a good area, because it will attract the “locals” (like me) and yet is central enough to draw the Milwaukee area crowd, some of the Green Bay area and who knows where else. A good way to improve you attendance is to not have it on a date of other events … for example avoid the WGA camp out event weekend in May and I believe there’s a “Cache In Trash Out” event sometime in April in Waukesha area in the works.Interesting idea of others helping you hide new caches … go for it if you wish, but ironicaly it might create more effort on you part than just hiding them yourself (since you’d already be scouting out general areas already), but that’s up to you.

I think I might not do that. Thanks for the your input.
12/18/2005 at 12:41 am #1760273I’ve done little to no caching in your area, and would be interested in an event your way.
I’m working on an event in my area for April 1…just working out location (got something in mind) and the details.

12/18/2005 at 2:03 am #1760274Ruseel, not the first weekend on June. That is the weekend of Brillion Ferst, and they want some caches put on for that city wide rummage sale, etc.
Thanks,
12/18/2005 at 2:53 am #1760275How much of an advance should I do. Would 3 weeks to a month be good or 2 months???
12/18/2005 at 12:43 pm #1760276GC.COM has a two month limit on posting events.
Before that, advertise here!
12/19/2005 at 3:29 pm #1760277The sooner you release the better … so go for 2 months … 3 weeks is way too close.
Suggestion #1 … at the bottom of the event page, place a “Check Back Here for Updates” spot … which will start out blank, but gives you a place to post updates (including the date you placed them) … I’ve done so with my events.
Suggestion #2 … Setup a second profile for your self … maybe one called “russell_53040_EVENTS” AND attached to some other email address (like a free Yahoo email account) … then use it to create the event page. The reason … when people post all their “found it” entries after the event, you will be getting a couple thousand emails sent your way … much better to send these to a Yahoo account that you can clear out a week or two after the event. If you want to get all the “will attend” emails to your regular email, simply turn on your regular profile’s “watch list” for the event page .. just rememeber to turn if off the morning of the event.
12/19/2005 at 7:35 pm #1760278Sounds like a new thread could be started?
When are future geocaching events being planned?
I was going to suggest to Russell to have his event the first weekend in June and now I read that Marc says there is another event in the works during that weekend.
How about it?
Anyone interested in starting a new thread and possibly some type of calendar visual.
I’m a very visual learner and seeing a calendar is more appealing to visual learners. Thanks in advance to whoever accepts this challenge.
Happy Holidays “Geo-Family”!
