For those who have done any caching in Illinois, you may have crossed paths with Geogil and his “direction detecting dane” Dairy. Sad to say, Dairy recently succumbed to cancer. Genius Loci wrote a nice article here. I’ve met them both a few times and you never saw one without the other. Dairy will be missed.

The loss of a pet is a sad time for everyone. Dogs are special, and one that can share geocaching with you is an even more special gift. I’m dealing with the impending loss of my number one greyhound (who liked the ride to geocaches, but not so much the hunt) to a physical malady. I’m sure Geogil and those that knew Dairy will feel the loss for some time.

Godspeed Dairy, and deepest sympathies to Geogil.

I had the pleasure of meeting Geogil and Dairy on the trails some time ago. I don’t know which I enjoyed more, as they were both delightful characters. My deepest condolences to Geogil.

    RIP Dairy!

Well, I know how Geogil feels… We here are what we refer to as “dog-people”… We love ’em!!

One of my first geocaching experiences was meeting Geogil and Dairy out on the trail in Monches…

    Best Wishes from:

We had the opportunity to meet Geogil and Dairy on several occasions. This gentle creature will be missed. As I recall she would be about 5 years old. I am sure that Geogil is suffering a great heartbreak. This companion meant the world to him. ~tb

I, too, had the pleasure of meeting Dairy on the trails. My heart goes out to Geogil as I understand the pain of losing a part of the family like Dairy was to him.

I have not had the pleasure of meeting Geogil and Dairy, but my heart goes out to you.

I am a HUGE animal lover and when I had my first dog, losing her to cancer also, I was lost and heartbroken for the longest time and still miss her dearly.

I send my blessings to you Geogil and to you Dairy…puppy heaven must be awesome, eat all the puppy cookies you want and never gain a pound. You will always be remembered!!

I never had the pleasure of meeting them, but geogil posted a picture of Dairy with one of my Moozilla TBs.

I can’t even count the number of pets I’ve lost in my life, but it never gets easier. Actually, I think it’s getting harder as I get older. Big *hugs* to geogil.

Though none lately, we previously had many occasions to visit with Gil and Dairy. She never passed up the opportunity to make us laugh. She’ll be missed!
