I was wondering what range of prices everyone has been seeing for ammo cans lately at your favorite surplus stores, farm and barn or barn farm (whichever you prefer), shows, etc…?
I guess price is dependant upon can size, so if you know the rough size of the cans that you have seen available, that would be good too.
Thanks for your help!

03/21/2006 at 7:47 pm #1761297Think I have seen them at Fleet for about $6.99. At the Army surplus place in Waukesha, we have seen them for $4.99 for the regular and about $1 more for the larger.
03/21/2006 at 8:01 pm #1761298Delaney’s has them for $5. Nice-sized.

03/21/2006 at 8:18 pm #1761299I can’t seem to find any.
03/21/2006 at 8:57 pm #1761300And if you are wondering where Delany’s is…
Between Baraboo and Sauk City on Hwy 12. Across from the old army munitions plant.
Dr.Evermore&Lady Eleanor cache is right next door. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=f5166b34-acf9-44b3-a70f-0f776d5d063c$5 for either of the two common sizes, plus tons of various swag items.

Thanks for that — I couldn’t give any better directions than across from Badger Ammunition…..
I love Delaney’s! I used to go there as a child (with a friend’s father) and was just blown away by everything there! Now I just see all sorts of great swag, and fun stuff.

03/22/2006 at 12:54 am #1761302Just recently, Fleet Farm’s regular prices (not sale prices) for ammo can went way down. The small ones were only $2.50! Thats better than the deals I’ve gotten anywhere else. I didn’t have the time to grab any then and I haven’t been back recently, so I can’t verify if its still this low, but it wouldn’t hurt to look!

We always stopped there on our trips to Devil’s Lake with my grandfather years ago.
For those that aren’t aware of what offbeat stuff can be found there… I had seen some time ago that someone had been wanting to do a payphone TB… you can do that at Delany’s. Last time we were there they had at least 60 payphones
They have flashlights, sunglasses, glass beads and marbles, magnets, key rings… its like a swap fest. But make a note, they do NOT accept credit cards.
03/28/2006 at 3:57 pm #1761304Good question! We were out at the Fleet Farm in Plymouth a few weeks back looking for some and all they had were the HUGE size ones. Does anyone know if there’s still an Army/Navy surplus store in downtown Milwaukee (Wisconsin Ave, IIRC) and if they have any? I keep meaning to check them out one of these weekends.

There is a store in Hales Corners called Sherper’s, which has always had ammo boxes and decon containers (and empty grenades for those who want encounters with local law enforcement) when I have gone in. Coordinates are roughly N42°56.350′, W088°02.850′. There is also an Army-Navy store in Waukesha, but it is about the same distance and much harder to navigate to. I don’t believe there is still one in Milwaukee.
03/29/2006 at 1:58 am #1761306I just read a post on the Mngca forums, where Member 5savages Posted:

I just bought twelve .50 caliber ammo cans (the bigger ones…11 long x 6 wide x 7 tall) from a guy in the metro area for just $5 each. While not the cheapest I’ve found, they are in fantastic shape. The couple I looked at closely had no rust, smelled brand new, and the seals were perfect. A few scuffs & scratches here and there though. He sells them $6 each in quantities of 1 to 9, $5 each for 10+. The guy is in the eastern metro area and he dropped them off at my friend’s house in Woodbury.
I’m very pleased with the deal. Good price, cans were in great shape, and he dropped them off.
If anyone is interested in getting some from him, send me a PM on this forum, or through geocaching.com and I’ll pass on the contact info. He says he has quite a few available.
If anyone can get to Woodbury, MN (at very least, it seems) this might be a good place to look.
*Using the Gc.com profile link for 5savages would probably work best.
Good luck! (I havent hidden any cans yet, but have plenty before Ill need any )

04/06/2006 at 5:07 pm #1761310Any F&F in extreme SE WI carry ammo boxes?
I’ve been to Sherpers, and the last time I was there, the boxes we either BIG or really rotten. There is a Sherpers N and W(near Waukesha?) but they were kind funky and rusty.
Thanks for any help!
