I’m honored to have been nominated for a second term on the WGA Board of Directors. I have been geocaching since January 2002 when I happened to meet two geocachers in the parking lot of Mirror Lake State Park who told me they had just found a “cache” in the woods. I, of course, asked them “How much cash did you find?” Shortly after reading their geocache page and confering with my wife Bonnie, we found our first “cache.”
To all those that haven’t met us yet, my team Hotdogs Off Trail consists of myself and Bonnie, and our two geocaching “hotdogs” Madison (cocker spaniel) and Murray (a mahogany Gordon setter). In October 2005, we logged our 500th geocache at the bottom of the Grand Canyon (GC5F1) on an overnight down the South Kaibab Trail to Phantom Ranch, and returning on the Bright Angel Trail. We have used geocaching to discover beautiful areas whereever we travel, from Wisconsin to the Ozarks, to the Black Hills, and to meet wonderful new friends along the way.
In addition to my geocaching.com profile, I help to maintain a 128 unit apartment complex and assisted living home near where I live. I’m a Supervisor on our local Town Board, a member of two local Ambulance Commissions and a Commissioner and Secretary of a Sanitary District.
Although not the most computer literate, I have been active helping to plan WGA events, helping with temporary hides, and being in charge of pancake breakfasts for the last two WGA Campouts.
I would like to see the WGA continue to work with the WiDNR to see a geocache-friendly policy be adopted.
There are sometimes “real-life” needs that take precedent over geocaching, and I want to continue to work towards a better Cache Rescue program, that would include an area on the website for our geocachers to come for help, and to help others that are not able to maintain or repair a geocache in a timely manner.
Also to have a link on the WGA website to a standardized on-line Permission form to be printed out for presentation to land managers.
Help to maintain the quality geocaches, both at WGA events and in Wisconsin in general.
I would like to see the WGA be able to obtain some GPSr’s through purchase or donations, to use as “loaners” at geocache-friendly State Parks..with geocaching info sheets.
Find a way to tap our great geocaching community to get more involved in presentations and teachings for land managers and new members and youth groups.Thank you for this opportunity to run for re-election.
