Ok So we all know you aren’t supposed to put a geocach on tracks, but what about abandoned tracks? Is this still off limits? I know an abandoned track that is a fairly popular walking trail for people who know about it and wanted to put a cache on the trail somewhere because it is just a cool walk. But I don’t know if this would get denied solely because of the track.
I’m sure this subject has been broached by someone in the past and I apologize if it is a repeat. I just see abandoned as a little different than normal tracks and don’t see why we shouldn’t be allowed to use them (outside of the fact that you better pretty dang sure that it is in fact abandoned)

03/31/2011 at 8:08 pm #1762407I know this is an old thread, but are there any known caches along abandon railroad tracks? I remember doing one about 8 or 9 years ago that was a lot of fun, but I can’t for the life of me remember where it was!
03/31/2011 at 8:14 pm #1762408Yes, there are tons of rails-to-trails. In the GB area you have the mountain bay trail, the Newton Blackmour trail. Just do a search for rails to trails and then match that map up with a geocaching map, or do a search for the trail name itself because there’s bound to be a cache or two that includes it as part of the name.
On the Left Side of the Road...03/31/2011 at 8:17 pm #1762409But are the tracks still there or are these trails that have had the tracks removed and now they are biking/hiking trails? I meant places where the railroad tracks are still there. Sorry if I wasn’t clear!

The rails are still there on this one.
04/01/2011 at 1:25 am #1762413The Old Milwaukee Road GC1R75V is about 10 miles west of Milwaukee. It’s listed as one of our favorites. We posted three pictures of that find.
